Racing Formats & Events

TSC Sailing Calendar – 1st February 2026

Championship Series

The Race briefing will be held at:

12:15 pm, with the first warning not before 1:30pm for afternoon races

Racing will be the standard Championship Series format; generally 2 races each scoring towards overall championship results. This year, the Championship Series will incorporate a Handicap  series which will run separately to the championship scoring.

Cleveland Bay Series

These races will be a varied format, potentially including handicap starts and are designed to provide  interest, promote participation for new sailors and develop skills. Race details will be presented at the  briefing and where available advertised ahead of time via Social Media.

Adventure Sails

Adventures sails include sailing to destinations that will be advised in the week before the event which  may be Townsville Yacht Club, Picnic Bay, Pallarenda, Nelly Bay. The destination or adventure may  need to be altered, postponed, or cancelled depending on the weather conditions on the day and  numbers of pre-registered participants. To assist in managing safety and competency, all adults  sailing in adventure sails must at minimum have completed a Start Sailing course with  ongoing practice at Sunday Morning Sailing or have prior sailing experience.

Sunday Morning Sailing

Supported Sunday morning sailing 9:00am – 12:00noon, for sailors wishing to practice sailing or try  sailing in different craft, is provided on all Sundays in which there is a race scheduled that afternoon.  Sunday morning sailing is the ideal time for those new to sailing to gain more time on the water and  become confident.

When racing is scheduled for a Sunday morning, Sunday Morning Sailing may not be held.

Club Boat Challenge Days:

Club Boat Challenge Days are races using club boats, scheduled to avoid conflict with Townsville  Yacht Club races. These days area open to members and non-members (with a SailPass), young and  old alike. The format of racing will be determined by the Officer of the Day and communicated at the  12:30 briefing. Formats may include hot-starts, match-racing, fleet racing, knock-out series, teams  racing, junior skipper races or some other format. Results for Club Boat Challenge Days will culminate  on that day with a post event presentation. Club Boat Challenge Days will not constitute a series.  Nomination fees for Club Boat Challenge Days will be separate to Bulk Nominations for the year. Stay  tuned to the club EVENTS page on the TSC website for event details.

Winter Bash Trailable Regatta:

The Winter Bash Trailable Regatta will be a mixed format regatta for trailable yachts. It is intended  that separate divisions will be included for sports boats and trailer sailors (subject to numbers) with  results based on Class Based Handicap (CBH). Separate notice of race and sailing instructions will be  issued for the event.

Try Sail Days:

Try Sail days are earmarked events that promote sailing and the Townsville Sailing Club. Club  members are needed to assist with organisation, rigging club boats and potentially taking participants  for an introductory session. For specific demonstration day event details – please visit the EVENTS  page on the TSC website.

TSC Sailing Dinghy Hire:

Hire of TSC sailing dinghies (Laser, Pacer, Tasar, Opti etc) is available for Sunday morning sailing  and Townsville events as scheduled above. Hirers must be TSC members or obtain temporary  membership via ‘SAILPASS’ (see TSC website) and have suitable sailing competence for boat and  conditions.

Learn to Sail and Instructor courses:

For all Learn to Sail and Instructor Courses – please visit the EVENTS page on the TSC website.

Officer of the Day:

Officer of the day is the club member responsible for organising the club event in accordance with all  club policies and marine safety requirements. The Officer of the Day will work with the Volunteer  Coordinator to help identify suitable volunteers to fulfil the roles required to run the event.
