This would be a volunteer position with an expectation of approx 5 hours of work per week, and a one year minimum commitment. Book Review Team Lead Available NOW |
Minimum Requirements - Project management experience. You will be re-building a process which connects our 20+ publishers with our 70+ reviewers

Primary Responsibilities - Manage the DODReads book review team by:
- Collecting books that are available for review
- Making those books available to our review team
- Sending those books to the review team
- Insuring the reviews are received in an acceptable time frame
- Insuring our editor edits/posts the review
- Sharing on social media and notifying all parties.

HR Team Lead Available NOW |
Minimum Requirements - Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Strong decision-making skills and ability to work independently
- Good research techniques, advocacy skills, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in word processing applications and Google Suite
- Able to work with DODReads for a minimum of 4 months, 3-5 hours per week
Primary Responsibilities - Develop and update job descriptions and job specifications in accordance with organization needs
- Prepare recruitment materials and post jobs to appropriate job boards/online
- Source and recruit candidates by using databases, social media
- Screen candidates resumes and job applications; assess applicant’s relevant knowledge, skills, soft skills, experience and aptitudes
- Onboard new members to become fully integrated
- Act as a point of contact and build influential candidate relationships during the selection process

Publishing Team Lead Available NOW |
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS - Experience with project management, including identifying milestones and making sure tasks are completed according to schedule
- Excellent English grammar and language skills
- Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles
- Available to volunteer / fellow with DODReads for a minimum of 9 months
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS - Previous experience managing a minimum of 5 individuals
- Journalism, English or Project Management related background, minimum 1 year
- Highly experienced using software platforms such as WordPress, Slack, the Google Suite
- Understanding of trends, SEO content marketability, and engaging content creation
- Proven working experience in the digital / content creation environment
- Available to volunteer / fellow with DODReads for more than 12 months
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES - Leads the Publishing Branch in content creation across various content platforms
- Develops and maintains new outlets for content creation, such as updating, revising or creating project oversight for content topics
- Reviews content for trend applicability, organization intention, and applicability
- Manages the Publishing team to include literary creators, audio and podcast creators, as well as video and graphics creators
- Works closely with the Editing and Social Media Branch to best promote DODReads content on varying platforms

Our content development teams is where the magic happens at DODReads. If you would like to help develop content for your Skillbridge internship you must first demonstrate your track record of producing high quality content for professional readers.
If you do not yet have this track record you can build your skill by contributing here https://www.dodreads.com/admin/contribute/. We normally require two high quality original articles prior to acceptance on our content team.
Minimum Requirements - A history of producing high quality content for professionals

- A commitment to produce content. We normally expect 1-2 articles per week for skillbridge fellows and at least 2-4 articles per year for volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities - Outreach to potential DODReads Skillbridge fellows
- Outreach for potential authors to participate in our annual book giveaway
- Outreach for military leaders, recently transitioned professionals, authors to participate in DODReads interviews (Authors / Commanders)
- Outreach to support military commands in their reading program
- Outreach to senior military and civilian leaders to publish their personal reading list. Ie what is Elon Musks, Bill Gates, LeBron James, ect.. Reading list?
- Outreach to individuals already writing articles for online consumption

Social Media TeamOpenings available in the Spring of 2023 |
Minimum Requirements - Qualified to independently develop engaging and original content on social media platforms
- Proficiency in word processing applications, spreadsheets, presentation software and social media management tools (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube)
- Good customer service and interpersonal skills
- Able to work with DODReads for a minimum of 6 months, 3-5 hours per week
Primary Responsibilities - Develop a content marketing plan and editorial calendar utilizing www.buffer.com
- Create engaging and shareable content for social media platforms; provide community feedback to management and stakeholders
- Monitor social media campaigns and analyze web traffic from our online community using key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Participate in outreach and virtual events as a PR agent to ensure accurate brand representation, brand imaging and to push products
- Will work closely with the Publishing / Content Management Branch to best promote DODReads content on varying platforms

Editing Team Openings for assistant editors NOW |
Minimum Requirements - Mastery of grammar, punctuation and spelling
- Proficiency in word processing applications, spreadsheets, presentation software
- Able to work with DODReads for a minimum of 6 months, 3-5 hours per week
- Previous experience working on a team that leverages freelance creators such as Journalism or communications related background, with a focus on the digital / editorial environment; minimum 1-3 years’ experience in the field
- Understanding and familiarity with packaging content for digital distribution / optimization
- Working knowledge of common platforms to support operational efficiencies (e.g. Google Suite, Mailchimp, Canva, WordPress)
Primary Responsibilities - Receive content via our shared e-mail box
- Reviewing and revising story ideas, articles, book reviews, newsletters, and general content to ensure work is high quality and in alignment with DODReads’ vision and mission
- Uploading and managing content to our content management system (Wordpress.com)
- Engaging with other team members, authors, and creators to refine the content creation process; suggest improvements to help refine/improve existing creative processes, creative products, and delivery systems

- Offer to assist them by including their book in the DODReads annual book giveaway

- Host the giveaway across the DODReads website and socials
- Assist the authors in distributing their books

Graphic Design TeamOpenings available in the winter / spring of 2023 |
Minimum Requirements - Atleast one to three years experience in graphic design
- Qualified knowledge on graphic design software (such as cavana, and google suits) to develop unique fonts, color schemes, shapes and other design elements to portray the organization’s brand
- Understanding of how to communicate via design choices
- Ability to provide a compelling portfolio of real-world experience
Primary Responsibilities - Leads the creation and execution of brand awareness, new customer acquisition and repeat purchases via design, branding and graphics
- Creates guidelines for how logos and branding materials should be displayed and used
- Makes design choices (e.g. fonts and colors) for all content used across our organization’s platforms
- Works with other creative team members to produce graphic and artistic content
