COVID-19 Safety Protocol

Purpose of the Plan:

Ensure physical safety of everyone who enters the campus building by adhering with well-defined procedures with explicit guidelines.

Overview of the Plan:

The campus will follow the district’s Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) distribution plan where school personnel and students will receive PPE every month and/or semester (i.e. masks, shields, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes and spray, and gloves). Hand sanitizer dispensers have been mounted by the door of each classroom, student restroom, and front office. There are also stand-alone hand sanitizer stations near the door of the cafeteria, staff arrival door, staff restroom, and gym. Students and staff members will be utilizing the hand sanitizer and washing their hands frequently throughout the day. All staff personnel and students will adhere to the CDC guidelines for social distancing throughout the school day, which includes personal contact. All staff personnel and students will be required to wear their mask appropriately according to the CDC guideline with the exception of when they are eating or drinking. Students will be provided their own manipulatives, writing utensils, supplies, etc. to minimize cross contamination. Throughout the day, the entire school community will work together to ensure all occupied areas have been cleaned and disinfected. All staff members will exit the building no later than 5:00 p.m. in order for the custodial staff to disinfect the classrooms and previously occupied areas.

Students will not be allowed to share items. **The parent/guardian of any student that gets a fever of 100° or higher during the school day will be notified by the nurse or administrator to come retrieve the student from school.

Home: Each morning prior to campus arrival, parents will be required to take their child(ren)’s temperature and record it in the self-check system. The parents will visit: www.fwisd.org/selfcheck to complete the daily student check-in. Students with a temperature of 100° or higher will be required to remain at home until the child has been temperature free for 24 hours. This procedure also applies to all of the school personnel.

Transition for Students (Arrival)

Purpose of the Plan:

Ensure all students arrive in a school environment that is safe with established and uniformed procedures.

Overview of the Plan:

Students will be allowed to enter the school building beginning at 7:30 a.m. each day. The cafeteria door will be the entry point for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. The auditorium door will be the entry point for Pre-K, Kinder., 1st and 2nd grade students. Prior to entry, designated staff members (2 per entry) will check the students’ temperature. Students with temperature below 100° will be scanned in with the student’s ID # and proceed to a designated color-coded table and number (cafeteria) or designated area and seat (auditorium). Cafeteria: Students will be assigned 4 to a table. To ensure appropriate distancing, students will sit facing out with their backs against the table top. Auditorium: Chairs will be labeled with a dot and students will sit in the grade level’s area in a tagged seat.

***Students with temperatures will be returned to the parent or escorted directly to the nurse’s office. The nurse will contact the parent for immediate student pick up***

Students will first be dismissed from the cafeteria and then auditorium. Designated staff members will be located throughout the hallway to greet, monitor, and redirect students. Students will maintain social distance between each peer and follow the hallway procedures.

For the in-person, first two days of school, one parent of the Pre-K students will be allowed to escort the student to class. The check-in process will be followed with each parent where they will be required to sanitize their hands, to take their temperature, and sign-in indicating their destination. The parent will be allowed to enter in cycles of five. The parent will only be allowed to stay in the class for a maximum of 15 minutes. This will allow the teachers to receive needed information from the parents and the students to get settled into the classroom. Once the time has expired, the parent signs-out and departs from the building. After which, the next group of five parents will proceed to the classroom. The cycle will continue until all students are checked in. After the first two days, parents/visitors will not be allowed to walk the students to class or permitted inside of the building. The student support staff will be utilized to assist with the transition of our Pre-K students, if needed.

Purpose of the Plan:

Ensure all students depart from a school environment in an orderly and safe manner with an organized and documented system.

Overview of the Plan:

Kindergarten - 5th Grade

Classroom dismissal: The dismissal groups will have staggered times to prevent congestion in the hallway.  The assigned teacher will go to each grade level class to pick up the students in his/her group. Car riders will begin transitioning at 2:50 p.m. Bus and daycare riders will begin transitioning at 2:55 p.m. Walkers will transition at 3:00 p.m. All students should be at their dismissal area by 3:00 PM. Teachers on each grade level will be assigned a group of students to escort to their dismissal locations. Daycare students will be escorted to outside of room 101 and 102. Daycare vans will park on Stalcup near the blacktop playground area, for daycare riders to be picked up. Bus riders will be escorted to the auditorium to sit in the designated area (skipping one seat between each student). Buses will park in the driveway, in front of the school, for student pick up. Bus riders will exit the west auditorium doors for dismissal. Walkers will be escorted to the breezeway next to room 107 (Primary) and room 117 (Intermediate). Parent pickups will be escorted to the south side of the building (Turner Street). Parent pickup students will line up next to the designated grade level cone. Designated staff members will be outside with a two-way radio calling the names of students. All staff members will utilize their two-way radios to hear and send the students when their parent/guardian arrives. Parents/Guardians of car riders will have a decal or card with the student and homeroom teacher’s name and grade level written clearly to ensure a smooth dismissal process. Parents/Guardians without the decal or card will be directed to the office to complete the dismissal process (i.e. showing identification for the office staff to check the student’s information card). The designated teacher will ensure all bus and daycare riders are escorted and loaded safely onto the bus or daycare van. The designated teacher will ensure all walkers are escorted outside of the fence and monitored until they are completely off of the premises. Designated staff members will be assigned specific locations to monitor the walkers (i.e. middle of the fence on Stalcup, the corner of Stalcup & Norris, and the corner of Stalcup & Turner). All Staff will utilize their radios throughout the dismissal process. All staff members will be utilized during the dismissal process. After the designated teacher from each grade level has escorted their students to their dismissal point, they will assist their teammates with car pickups on Turner Street. All other personnel who complete their dismissal of students before 3:10 p.m. will provide additional support for car pickups. Students who have not been picked up by 3:10 will be escorted to the auditorium where the designated teacher/staff member will sign-in their remaining students in on the late pickup log. Designated staff members will monitor the late pickups.  One staff member will oversee the students contacting their parents/guardians in the office.

Pre-K students will begin their dismissal transition process at 2:10 p.m. Pre-K car pickup students will be escorted to the auditorium for dismissal by 2:15. Students will sit in the designated area for their homeroom, skipping 1 seat between each student.  Parents/Guardians will be required to sign students out each day, to ensure the safety of each student. Pre-K daycare riders will be escorted to sit outside of room 101 and 102. A designated staff member will be assigned to daycare riders. Daycare vans will park on Stalcup near the blacktop playground area, for student pick up.

Inclement weather Plan:

During inclement weather, 3rd - 5th grade car pickup students will be dismissed from the cafeteria. Kindergarten - 2nd grade car pickup students will be dismissed from the auditorium.  All other dismissal procedures will remain the same.

Transition for Students (Campus Hallway Procedures)

Purpose of the Plan:

Ensure all students and staff members are able to transition in an environment that is safe with an established, uniformed system.

Overview of the Plan:

The campus will have established procedures for walking in the hallway. Students and teachers will practice social distancing and follow the flow of the designated colored paws. There will be two paws between each student to maintain the appropriate distance away from their classmate. The blue paws will be used to travel from the front of the building to their classrooms, while the yellow paws are used to travel to the front of the building from their classrooms. The classes will use the posted stop signs to indicate stopping points. While in the hallway, all students will be on volume level zero, while correctly wearing their mask with their hands by their side. During the morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, assigned monitors will monitor students walking to and from their destination to ensure all students are walking on the paws and social distancing between their peers. The safety patrol will be established mid-October where students serve as the hall monitors along with the designated adult. Throughout the day, all students will be Required to have a hallway pass if they are in the hallway once they have checked-in with their homeroom teacher or first period class.

Lining up procedures: Students will line up inside of the classroom utilizing social distancing (arm length apart) prior to going into the hallway. This will ensure students are monitored at all times.

Restroom procedures: Identified grade levels will be assigned to designated restrooms. 4th & 5th grade students will use restrooms: #5 and #6, 2nd & 3rd Grade students will use restrooms: #3 & #4, and 1st grade students will use restrooms: #1 and #2. Students in Pre-K and K will use the restrooms in their classrooms. Students in the gym will use the gym’s restroom. Classes will also have a designated morning and afternoon time frame to send their students to the restroom in groups of 3 - 5 (depending on the number of stalls/urinals).

Purpose of the Plan:

Ensure students are able to eat their lunch in a safe environment with established procedures that are followed consistently.

Overview of the Plan:

Breakfast - Breakfast will be served in the classroom for all students from 7:40 a.m. until 8:00 a.m.  Cafeteria staff will deliver breakfast bags to each classroom before school. Custodial staff will provide each classroom with trash bags designated for breakfast trash. Transportation

Purpose of the Plan:

Establish a system for students who ride the bus to and from school safe passage while being transported.

Overview of the Plan:

Parents/Guardians will ensure their child(ren) have completed the self-check system visiting www.fwisd.org/selfcheck. Students will load the bus from back to front. Students will sit two to a seat. Students will be required to wear his/her mask throughout the duration of the travel time. While on the bus, all students will adhere to the rules and procedures of the bus driver which includes sitting while the bus is in motion, using a level one volume, and eliminating anything that will distract the driver. Once students exit the bus, the driver will sanitize each occupied seat in order to prepare for the next group of students.

**Each student will receive a color band to place on his/her backpack that will indicate the student’s bus number.

In the afternoon, monitors will be assigned to each bus to ensure all students are loaded safely. The monitors will maintain a Google Docs log that will indicate which students have been placed on the bus. A hard copy of the log will be placed in the monitors’ box at the end of each day (just in case there are any questions about a student being placed on the bus in the p.m.).
