Backpacking Menu and Sharing Procedure
Please complete the food survey to let us know about any dietary restrictions or allergies you may have and hot beverage choices. This information is crucial for planning meals and ensuring everyone's safety.
- Water: Two 1-liter water bottles are recommended.
- Dishes: A bowl and spoon are essential.
- Coffee Cup (Optional): If you prefer not to drink hot beverages from your water bottle.
- Snacks (Optional): Bring extras if you anticipate needing them between meals.
- We will share the weight of the following:
- Commissary: All food preparation equipment (pots, utensils, etc.)
- Water Filter: For purifying drinking water
- Food: We will split the cost (typically around $20 for a 1-2 night trip) and only bring the exact amount needed to minimize weight.
- Proper food handling, preparation, water filtering, and filling procedures will be followed at all times.
- Individual Food Bags: Each participant will receive a designated bag with their trail name (e.g., "Boots") on it.
- Shared Contents: These bags will contain a portion of the shared food and gear (e.g., camp stove, ingredients for a chili dinner).
- Equal Weight Distribution: Each bag will be proportioned to ensure everyone carries an equal weight (typically between 5 and 10 pounds, depending on the number of people and trip duration).
By sharing food and gear, we can:
- Reduce overall pack weight for everyone.
- Ensure everyone has access to the necessary equipment and nutritious meals.
- Minimize food waste and unnecessary packaging.
