Minimum Admission Requirements

15 A-G courses completed

15 A-G courses completed

11 of the A-G courses must be completed prior to senior year

“A” History/Social Science

2 years of history/social science

Must include one year of US Hist. OR one semester of US Hist. and one semester of American Gov.

PLUS: One additional year of history/social science from either the “A” or the “G” subject areas.

Each semester must be completed with a C or above.

GEOG 1B = Cultural Geog. (1Yr.)

HIST 3 = World Hist.(1 Yr.)

HIST 17B = US Hist. (1 Yr.)

POLS 2 = American Gov. (1 Yr.)

CP Econ. OR AP Econ. from (G) (1 semester)

PLUS: One year of world history, European History, cultures/geography, from the “A” subject area only. “G” courses are not accepted.

Each semester must be completed with a C or above.

GEOG 1B = Cultural Geog. (1Yr.)

HIST 3 = World Hist.(1 Yr.)

HIST 17B = US Hist. (1 Yr.)

POLS 2 = American Gov. (Only 1 semester or .5

“B” English

4 years of approved English courses including no more than one year of advanced ESL or ELD.

Each semester must be completed with a C or above.

A non transferable (3 digits) course with a grade of C or above may be used to validate English grade 9,10, or 11. SC: Eng. 190

AP English 3 or AP English 4 with a grade of C or above each semester may be used to validate all four years of the English requirement.

A transferable level (1 or 2 digit) English course may be used to validate all four years of the English requirement. SC:  Eng. 1A

The ESL/ELD must be completed in grades 9, 10 or 11.

Each semester must be completed with a C or above.

A non transferable (3 digits) course with a grade of C or above may be used to validate English grade 9,10, or 11. SC Eng. 190

AP English 3 or AP English 4 with a grade of C or above each semester may be used to validate all four years of the English requirement.

A transferable level (1 or 2 digit) English course may be used to validate all four years of the English requirement. SC: Eng. 1A

“C” Mathematics

3 years of mathematics including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. OR Integrated Math 1, Math 2, and Math 3.

Integrated Math 2 will be accepted in lieu of a Geometry course.

Student may have a D first semester if second semester is C or above.

A grade of C or better in the first semester of Algebra 2 validates both semesters of Algebra 1.

Integrated CP Math 3 may validate a “D” in CP Integrated Math 2.

A grade of C or better in Trigonometry or Precalculus validates the entire Math requirement.

CP or AP Statistics validates Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.

AP Calculus,  AB or BC may be used to validate Algebra or Algebra 2, but not Geometry.  

Grade of C or above in a non-transferable course in algebra, geometry, or intermediate algebra satisfies one year of the requirement.

SC Math 101 = Alg. 1 or CP Math I

SC Math 102 = Alg. 2 or CP Math III

SC Math 14 = Statistics and validates Alg. II or

                       Math 3

SC Math 10 = Trigonometry validates math  

                       sequence

SC Math 2 = Precalculus validates math sequence

4 years of Math are highly recommended.

Student must have completed two semesters of Geometry OR Math 2. The Geometry requirement may be met in 7th or 8th grade.

Integrated Math 2 will be accepted in lieu of a Geometry course.

Student may have a D first semester if second semester is C or above.

A grade of C or better in the first semester of Algebra 2 validates both semesters of Algebra 1.

CP or AP Statistics validates Algebra 1 and Algebra 2.

Grade of C or above in a non-transferable course in algebra, geometry, or intermediate algebra satisfies one year of the requirement

A grade of C or better in Trigonometry or Precalculus validates the entire Math requirement however the student must have taken Geometry or Math 2.  

Trigonometry may validate a D in Geometry or Math 2, but it will not validate an omission of Geometry. The omission of  Geometry or Math 2 course cannot be validated by any higher level course work.

AP Calculus, AB or BC may be used to validate Algebra or Algebra 2, but not Geometry.

“D” Laboratory Science 

2 years of Laboratory Science

At least 1 year of physical science and one year of biological science. One course must be from the D subject area. The second course could be from the “D” or “G” area.

Earth Science can be used as one lab science for non-impacted campuses plus Chico State due to Local Eligibility.

A second semester of “C” can validate a first semester “D” or “F”  in chemistry.

3 years are highly recommended.

Must include at least two of the three subjects: including biology, chemistry and physics. Both courses must come from the “D” subject area.

Only one interdisciplinary science course can be used to meet this requirement

Both semesters must be a “C” or higher. Validation of a “D” is not allowed.

“E” Language Other Than English

2 years of Language other than English and the 2 years must be of the same language.  

American Sign Language is accepted.

A grade of “C” or better in a second semester of a higher-level course validates a lower-level course.  A higher -level course can validate the appropriate number of years based on the level.  Example 8th grader can take Sp. I and enter 9th grade with Sp. II which completes the minimum requirement.

Shasta College LOTE courses count as two years of high school LOTE.

American Sign Language is accepted.

Must have a C or above each semester

One year chosen from dance, music, theater, visual arts (e.g. painting, web/graphics design, film/video, inter/multimedia arts.

A single course taken over two academic years is acceptable if it is taken in sequential order.

Grade of “C” or better in any CSU/UC transferable college course (in person or online) that clearly falls within one of the four visual/performing arts, disciplines: dance, music, theater or visual arts.

Must have a C or above each semester.

One year chosen from dance, music, theater, visual arts (e.g. painting, web/graphics design, film/video, inter./multimedia arts.

A single course taken over two academic years is acceptable if it is taken in sequential order.

Grade of “C” or better in any UC transferable college course (in person or online) that clearly falls within one of the four visual/performing arts, disciplines: dance, music, theater or visual arts.

“G” College Preparatory Elective

1 year.

One year in addition to those required in a-f course offerings OR One year approved in the (g) category

Must have a C or above each semester.

Grade of “C” or better in any CSU/UC transferable course beyond the minimum required number course in any of the “a-f” categories
