Behind companionway steps

Engine Control Panel

Engine control panel in cockpit; aft port

Engine Battery Switch

Inside the port cockpit locker.

**This must be on in order for the engine to start**

Engine Hour Meter

On the engine panel. Do not use the meter under the chart table.

Fuel Gauge

Aft of the engine panel. Power button on the engine panel must be pressed in order to read.

  • Fuel consumption: .6 gallons/hour at 2800 rpm
  • Fuel tank irregular shape (21 gallons): Fuel level reads slightly higher than what is really available. Example: Tank reads ¾ full when 13 gallons is left. At ½ tank, there is about 8 gallons of fuel in the tank.

Ignition/Start

On engine control panel

Throttle

Port side, in front of the engine panel; combines direction and speed.

Shifting

  • To engage transmission, simultaneously push the trigger button on the shifter handle and move forward or reverse until it “clicks” into place. To increase speed, continue to move the lever forward or reverse, watching the tachometer to ensure speed isn’t too high.

  • To disengage transmission, pull the lower part of the shifter out (hub), then move the lever forward. Pulling the lever back into neutral will pop the hub back in. Speed can be adjusted when the lever is moved forward or back; transmission is disengaged as long as the lever does not move into neutral.

Engine Starting

  1. Put transmission in the neutral position
  1. Throttle lever forward about 1/3 (while in neutral)
  1. Press Power button (do not press and hold in)
  2. Wait for the alarm, then press Start. Engine will start up.
  3. At this point the audible alarm should turn off. If not, Stop the engine!
  4. Check transom for water and exhaust (turn engine off immediately if no water is pumping out through the exhaust)

Engine Stopping

Make sure the shifter is in neutral. Push Stop, then push and hold Power until the alarm stops.

Electrical

AC Electrical Switches

The AC panel is located above the chart table. Main breaker switch is at the top of the panel.

House Battery Switch

Located under the chart table. Keep the selector on “1,” as the engine battery switch is separate. Main DC breaker is also under the chart table above the battery selector switch.

Battery Charging

Charged by either shore power (make sure AC power and battery charger switch are turned ON) or by running the engine.

Monitoring Batteries

Monitor levels when using DC services while the engine is not running. Battery voltmeter is next to indicator lights.

Battery System

Indicator lights below the chart table show which batteries are on. Turn off the starter battery when the engine is not running, including when the boat is docked. Leave the “combiner” switch off unless it is needed as an emergency start.

DC Electrical Panel

Located on the left half of the electrical panel, with the main breaker underneath the chart table above the battery selector switch.

Electronics

GPS/Chartplotter

Location: Small unit by the chart table and the large unit hanging above the galley sink.

To Operate:

  1. In main cabin, turn “instruments” switch on the DC panel to “on”
  2. Turn on power at unit

Navigation  Instruments

Location: On either side of the cockpit.

To Operate:

  1. In main cabin, turn “instruments” switch on the DC panel to “on”
  2. Depth, speed and wind will read automatically. Do NOT change settings.

Sails

Headsail

Genoa is on a rolling furler. Jib sheets lead back to the cockpit.

  • Uncleat the furling line and unfurl slowly (especially on windy days)
  • Get 2-3 wraps around the genoa with the sheets when done and lock off sheets on cleats

Mainsail

Mainsail in fully battened with lazy jacks

  • Main halyard, first reef, outhaul and boom vang run along starboard to the cockpit clutch
  • Lazy Jacks - When lowering the main it is easiest to use the lazy jacks (especially on windy days) in order to drop the sail quickly. To activate, un-tuck lines from hooks and tension lines on the cleat on the starboard side of the mast to create a “V”. When lowering the main simply head directly into the wind and let the sail drop onto the boom in between the lazy jack lines. Tie sail ties as you go
  • Please raise the boom to its usual position after sailing. Please make sure the boom is not resting on the dodger.

Tankage

Water Tanks (2)

Location: Tanks are located under each settee in the salon

Fill Cap: Port and starboard

Capacity: 65 gallons (32.5 each)

Fuel Tank

Location: Under aft berth

Fill Cap: Aft on the starboard side

Capacity: 21 gallons

Holding Tank

Location: Under v-berth, forward port side

Capacity: 22 gallons

Pump-out Deck Cap: Located on port midship; labeled “waste”.

**Never pump the tank overboard**

Head

Operation

Nothing goes in the bowl that has not been consumed first. Do not flush toilet paper → put TP in trash.

Make sure the water intake seacock is open. Located under the v-berth, port side.

Head Operation:

  1. Move selector switch to “wet bowl” (flush)
  2. Pump 3-5 times to allow water into the bowl
  3. After use, move the selector switch to “dry bowl” (dry) and pump contents until the bowl is empty.
  4. Move the switch back to “wet bowl”, pump again a few times to bring in water, then change to “dry bowl”, pumping water through until the bowl is empty.

Bilge Pump

Bilge Pump (Electric)

Location: 3-way switch on panel underneath chart table

To Operate: Hold to “manual” for continuous or “auto” for intermittent with a float switch. Always leave the switch on “auto” before leaving the boat.

Bilge Pump (Manual)

Location: Socket located aft portside in the cockpit. Handle is stowed in the chart table.

To Operate:

  1. Insert handle into socket
  2. Move the handle up and down to allow the pump to prime. When the pump is primed, moving the handle will be harder, but keep pumping as water is moving through and out the bilge exit thru hull. Pumping will become easier as water exits the boat.
  3. Remove the handle and place it back in the chart table.

An additional hand pump is located inside the port cockpit locker.

Boat Systems

Refrigeration

Has an icebox; no electrical system. Icebox drain is under the galley sink. When finished - drain, wipe clean and leave the ice box lid open after use to air out.

Stove

Basic Operation:

  1. Open gate valve on propane tank
  2. Turn on the solenoid switch located on the DC panel labeled “gas valve”.
  3. Light the propane lighter holding next to the desired burner.
  4. Push the knob in and turn the gas control knob on the stove to light. Once lit, keep pushing the knob in for 15 seconds to activate the safety sensor.

Shut Down:

  1. Turn off the solenoid switch “gas valve” on the panel
  2. Once flame is extinguished, turn off knob(s) on stove
  3. Turn off the valve on the propane tank. Especially make sure this is closed at the end of the day.

Galley Sink

The Y-valve to both water tanks is located under the galley sink. Seacock located in a cabinet under the sink. To access the water first turn on the “water pressure” switch on the DC panel.

  • If you hear the water pump turning on and off or running incessantly, first make sure you didn’t leave the shower running! Otherwise, it could be due to a low tank allowing an air leak which fools the system into turning on. Try switching tanks. Then refill the low tank when you can.
  • Underway, it is best to alternate tanks to keep weight distribution equal on your trip.

Head Sink

Seacock located under the sink. Keep closed until the sink is in use.

Hot Water Heater

AC and engine heat exchange operated. 12 gallon capacity. Make sure the tank(s) have water before operating.

Anchor & Windlass

Primary Anchor:  In the bow anchor locker - 35 lb CQR with 130’ chain and 140’ line.

Secondary Anchor: Inside starboard anchor well - Danforth with chain in STB deck locker. 140’ extra line in anchor locker for either system.

Windlass: Engine MUST be running while the windlass is in use.

The windlass breaker is located under the chart table. The windlass operates with foot switches.

To Operate:

  • To lower anchor, first turn all battery breakers on, then control the pace of the outgoing chain by running at 5 second intervals.
  • Once the anchor is set, secure a snubber line to remove strain from the windlass overnight.
  • To hoist anchor, first turn all battery breakers on. Next, start up the engine to reduce load on the batteries. Now flip on the breaker for the windlass located under the chart table. Finally, operate the windlass from the foredeck with the “up” foot pedal or with the wireless remote. The remote is stowed on the bulkhead in the forward cabin to starboard. Have a second person monitoring chain as it fills the anchor locker.
  • When using line rode: Someone should access the anchor locker to give the line tension while it is brought up in the windlass to avoid it bunching up.
