Season 2 Information

First Details on Season 2 Battle Pass

At 10:00 a.m. PST on Saturday, June 8, we’ll be sharing some of the first details on Apex Legends Season 2 as part of our EA PLAY livestream. Today, we want to tell you about just a few of the high-level improvements you can expect from our second Battle Pass. So, without further ado, we'll let our Lead Product Manager, Lee Horn, tell you more. Take it away, Lee!

Leeeeeee-RSPN here, with an update on Battle Pass Season 2. We’ve been listening to the community discussion regarding the Season 1 Battle Pass and have gotten a ton of great feedback from players. Today, we’re excited to share just some of the changes and improvements you can expect with the Season 2 Battle Pass, so y’all can know that we’re headed in the right direction.

Daily/Weekly Challenges and Improving the Grind

Starting in Season 2, you’ll be able to complete a mix of Daily and Weekly Challenges to level up your Battle Pass. If you miss a few weeks or start late, your Weekly Challenges will still be around for you when you return, and you can complete them all at once.

While we don’t want to introduce wacky challenges that drastically warp the way you play the game, these challenges should provide some interesting variation from game-to-game. This means all players should feel more rapid Battle Pass progression and the journey will hopefully be more fun and interesting. Also, this addition should allow players who can only dedicate a few hours a week to the game to make a very deep cut into their Battle Pass progression.

Moar Legendaries!

We’re adding three Legendary items to the Battle Pass and there will now be a Legendary item every 25 Battle Pass levels in the premium track, including at purchase (that’s level 1, level 25, level 50, level 75, and level 100). Our goal is to have a nice balance of cool character exclusives and cosmetics for everyone (like weapon skins). The level 100 reward will be an evolving weapon skin with a special recolor version for those players who make it to level 110.

New Cosmetic Types and No Badge or Stat Tracker Rewards on Premium Path

We removed badges and basic stat trackers completely from the premium Battle Pass rewards track for Season 2. You’ll still get a seasonal badge, but it’ll be a single, evolving badge that won’t take up any additional reward slots! We’ve kept seasonal win trackers in the free path, and they will all be earnable in the first 10 levels.

You’ll also be able to earn items from three new content categories in place of badges/trackers. We’ll be revealing details about these categories closer to the launch of Season 2.

Earn Enough Crafting Metals for a Legendary Item

We’re replacing the Voice Lines with Crafting Metal rewards. You’ll now be able to earn enough Crafting Metals (1,200) to craft the Legendary item of your choosing. So, if there’s an existing item you’ve been coveting, you’ll be able to get it in Season 2. You can still get additional Crafting Metals from the various Apex Pack rewards in the Battle Pass as well.

We have a lot more to tell you about what you can expect in Season 2, so make sure you tune into our livestream on Saturday, June 8 to hear what else we have in store.

#13 - Enter the Apex: “The Update Update”

• Garrett • Kyle • Guest

Garrett and Kyle discuss the developer update for the upcoming update. The guys handle it with a firm hand and an eye on the future. Expect Enter the Apex to continue to update you on the games happenings as they happen. All eyes are on June when EA unveils their plans for Season 2. Until then, look forward to more mini-episodes as news releases for our favorite new shooter.

Respawn Update

While searching for possible explanations for this bug, we have been able to reproduce and locally fix many cases of incorrect hit registration, mostly related to mismatches between the way the game client and server pose characters in their animations, but also caused by various other factors. The next patch will address these issues.

However, we don’t believe that we are out of the woods yet. There is still more work to be done but we believe that the fixes coming next patch will be a good improvement and will help weed out many of the less severe issues people are noticing, which will help us understand more about whatever bugs may be remaining. (And when we squash this thing, our hit detection will be more solid than ever.)

Will be fixed next patch.

This is an issue that came up in the balance changes we made to Gibraltar and Caustic. We have a fix that will be deployed in the next patch.

In our Update on Apex Legends, we provided some info on where we were at with this issue. To recap:

We know that it affects some data centers more than others, it happens on many different server configurations, and it doesn't seem to hit multiple server instances running on the same machine. In other words, it's not that a machine is overloaded and everything on it is running too slow - it's that one instance on the same machine seems to be doing more work than the others, and we're trying to nail down what work it's doing and work backwards to understand the root cause.

Some additional info this week:

By adding additional tracking and telemetry to our dedicated servers we have identified a number of machines that were passing our health checks but actually had faulty hardware. We have removed these from our server pool, and match quality should be noticeably improved in all datacenters.

We are continuing to profile our servers to catch hitches, persistent slow-mo, and other game quality issues. We have a few server optimizations rolling out but there are many more areas of work left and as we identify these, we will be rolling out optimizations and fixes and keeping players updated.

Two areas we can confirm will be addressed in the next patch:

Overall audio performance [addressing sounds dropping out / stuttering / distortion]

Footsteps audio

Improvements are coming but they don’t make it sound like footsteps are completely fixed.

Other improvements are coming as well and we’ll share the details in the patch notes. Good progress has been made but we’ll still have work to do. We appreciate everyone that’s been providing clips to illustrate the issue. This is super helpful for us so please continue to report audio issues you find and if you can, include any footage and context like series of events happening in the match that lead up to your issue. Also let us know what platform, specs [if on PC] and what audio peripherals you are using [headphones, surround sound, etc] .

This is a tad controversial in the community. https://www.polygon.com/2019/5/12/18616643/apex-legends-cheating-piggy-backing-bans-update-patch

Piggy-backing is when a player drafts off other players in the squad to carry them to a good position and level up faster but doesn't actually participate in the match [meaning they never collect a weapon, fire a shot, don’t deal any damage, etc]

We had been seeing some feedback from players around this and have been doing some internal investigations looking at game data to understand how many of the matches being played are affected by this behavior.

After looking at the data and internal discussions, we’ve decided that in the future we’ll start instituting temp bans for players that exhibit piggy-backing behavior and extreme cases could lead to a permanent ban. This change will not be immediate but wanted to give a heads up to players so you can adjust that behavior.

Lifeline’s Pick Me Up banner was causing crashes on the PS4 and has since been fixed.

This week we deployed a small update to PS4 that was meant to update the PlayStation Store only with new reward skins for PS+ members and didn’t expect for there to be any impact for players.

Unfortunately the deployment didn’t go that way. After looking at players reports and testing to reproduce internally, we confirmed that Lifeline’s “Pick Me Up” Banner was causing crashes triggered by:

We deployed a partial fix by disabling the Banner and will be fully resolving the issue in the next patch.

Have a great weekend!

You guys might have talked about it before, but there are vehicles all over the map. Tanks and trucks. How about turning them on. Putting a turret in the back of that truck. Turns into a warthog from halo pretty much. There are roads all over. The map seems pretty vehicle friendly in some spots. They would have to add some kind of rocket weapon to compete with these vehicles. Every other battle royal has vehicles. Should apex legends or is this map too small?

#12 - Enter the Apex: “Mobile Legends”

• Garrett • Kyle • Guest

Apex Legends is going mobile! When? We don’t really know, but we got a glimpse at EAs big plans for the Chinese and mobile market. Garrett and Kyle sainly discuss the merits of mobile gaming while calling for the live game updates to continue to flow. At the forefront, our big bios still need their armor. 770,000 cheaters ban is good news as well. Emails and more on this episode of Enter the Apex

Apex Legends Is Planned For Mobile

During an EA conference call on May 7, investors and EA leaders discussed plans to bring Apex Legends to mobile platforms. No details were provided as to when Apex Legends will come to mobile devices, but EA is working aggressively to bring the game to more players in more markets and platforms around the world.

770,000 Cheaters Banned

Drew McCoy

We’ve been working closely with key experts across EA, including EA Security and Fraud, the Origin teams, and our fellow developers at DICE, FIFA, and Capital Games, in addition to Easy-Anti-Cheat. While we’ve already rolled out several updates (and will be continually doing so for the foreseeable future), others will take time to fully implement. We can’t share details on what we’re doing so as to not give a head’s up to the cheat makers, but what we can say is that we’re attacking this from every angle: from improvements in detecting cheaters, to bolstering resources and tools, to improving processes and other sneaky things to combat sellers and cheaters. We can share some high-level stats on progress that’s been made:

We take cheating in Apex Legends incredibly seriously and have a large amount of resources tackling it from a variety of angles. It is a constant war with the cheat makers that we will continue to fight.

We’ll be back next week with an update on another one of the issues called out in last week’s post. In the meantime, there have been a number of reports of the missing close footsteps audio on Reddit. We have only seen a few videos of those situations, so if those affected could please include video with a post illustrating the issue that will be a big help in ensuring we can fix the problem.

Origin Servers Down Most of Sunday

EA Stock Falls

Hey guys,

Big fan of the Enter The Apex Podcast and Apex Legends itself. Before that, I dumped endless hours of play into Titanfall (probably my favorite game ever) and Titanfall 2. I have a comment about your discussion on the L-Star.

If you look at the cover of the game, Bloodhound is actually holding an L-Star. It would be very much in the Respawn fashion to put it there and then release the gun later. So I think we will definitely be seeing it later on.

Secondly, you guys mentioned the data mined "Proto-Hold Beam" weapon. Immediately the Charge Rifle comes to mind. The Charge Rifle was a fantastic Anti-Titan weapon in both Titanfall's that also did great damage to Pilots and was extremely accurate even over long distances. I used it quite a bit and I think it would make a great addition to the game. Keep doing what you guys do and I'll keep tuning in to every episode.

Thanks for everything

My favorite podcast on spotify now, all caught up now with today's episode.

I wanted to touch on the idea of the new thunderdome being a PvP arena. It seems to me that the devs created every location in Kings Canyon so that they could be made into FPS standard pvp maps for deathmatch, CTF, King of the hill, etc. While it doesn't seem likely that Respawn would do this (Titanfall 3), do you think they might implement a game mode where the individual locations serve as pvp arena or some kind of race style br where you are directed from location to location and every checkpoint the person in last place dies.

Saving for later

I'm a long-time listener (back from Starcast) and was super excited when I saw the title of this week's episode: “Git Gud Dad!” I'm a Dad! I suck at this game! Kyle and Garrett are going to solve my problems!  Alas, it was not to be as that's not what it meant.

I play games casually and don't have a lot of extra cycles to "git gud" at Apex. I have played dozens of matches and managed to rack up . . . one kill. I hot drop. . . and die instantly. I hide and loot . . . and then die instantly. I play the tutorial. . . and don't die, but I'm not sure it's helping to just run around trying to get headshots on stationary targets.

What can I do to "git gud" when I only have an hour or two to play a week and I'm starting so far behind?

I'd be tempted to pay Kyle for some tutorial magic like I've heard from Into the Nexus, but I'm not sure how that would work in this game.

#11 - Enter the Apex: “The Artisanal Battle Royale”

• Garrett • Kyle • Guest

An update from EA seeped in modern times. On this Enter the Apex Garrett and Kyle tackle the newest post from Executive Producer Drew McCoy. Will we get new content at the price of developer sanity or will the game drop the lemons? Regardless, the meta has shifted and new weapons lead the forefront. Get ready shake up your gameplay!

Update from EA

Drew McCoy - Executive Producer Apex Legends

Opened up reminding us how awesome Apex’s launch was before turning into the same self-aware “we hear you”s that we’ve come to expect from developers in this day and age of games as a service.

As we are getting our house in order, some of the critical things we’re prioritizing are:

So far, we know that it affects some data centers more than others, it happens on many different server configurations, and it doesn't seem to hit multiple server instances running on the same machine. In other words, it's not that a machine is overloaded and everything on it is running too slow – it's that one instance on the same machine seems to be doing more work than the others, and we're trying to nail down what work it's doing and work backwards to understand the root cause. This is extremely high priority for us, and we'll keep you updated on our progress.

Audio Issues

Currently testing some potential fixes that will hopefully address many of the performance issues we’ve seen reported.

Nothing new. Just repeating their usual statement of “we don’t want to tell the cheaters how we plan to come after theme.” Which is just fine.

We’ve been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. This is something we will always be more secretive about to avoid telegraphing our moves to cheaters, but we’ll be sharing more on the progress made next week.

Hit Registration Issues

Link to example - Threads have been popping up on and off since the Season 1 Patch.

TLDR: Sounds like they’re pretty far off from fixing this. The dev comments here focus on adding a system for reporting hit registration issues and that while Respawn have already made some fixes that ”more work needs to be done to address the root of the problem.” McCoy went on to saw that in coming weeks Respawn will talk more about what’s being done to fix this in “future patches”

New Content

TLDR: McCoy went straight for the crunch buzzword when addressing players’ cries for more content saying: “The studio culture that we’ve worked hard to cultivate, and the health of our team are very important. We take those things into account when we discuss our content roadmap, the production schedule, and the frequency in which we can update the game. Our long-term goal is to ensure Apex Legends always feels alive and thriving, with a focus on quality of content over novelty or speed of release. At the same time, we want to maintain our culture as a development team and avoid crunch that can quickly lead to burnout or worse.”

At launch we shared a high-level view of our roadmap, showcasing how we would be taking a seasonal approach to live service. Today we want to provide more clarity on what you can expect for content and update cadence in the future:

Related: Fortnite Developers are being overworked

“We’re always in crunch,” a source told Polygon. “Crunch never ends in a live service game like that. You’re always building more content and more stuff.”

Speaking with 12 current and former Epic employees, Polygon reports that they “regularly worked in excess of 70-hour weeks, with some reporting 100-hour weeks,” the article reads. “Contract staff in Epic’s quality assurance and customer service departments spoke of a stressful and hostile working environment in which working overtime—while officially voluntary—was an expected service to the company.” One source said they worked seven days a week for 12 hours each day throughout several months. Others detailed to Polygon the impact that such long hours were having on their lives.

Season Launches

The beginning of each season will start big with a new Battle Pass, a new Legend, something new for the meta, and more.

Thoughtful Updates Throughout the Season

TLDR: They’re sticking with what they’ve already been doing and seem to think their less-frequent updates are of extremely high quality. Do I sound salty? It’s because I am. Respawn is trying to slap an artisan label on their game.

Just as we've done since launch, we will continue to address exploits, necessary balance changes, bug fixes, and small features throughout the course of a season. For complete transparency, our goal isn't, and never has been, to patch or update content on a weekly basis. We believe strongly in the importance of large, meaningful changes to the game that have lasting impact, thus our focus on a seasonal release cadence we laid out at launch. We will continue to follow this cadence in the future.”

Improved Communication

We need to provide more visibility into the future, and what we’re working on. That doesn’t mean we’re going to start telling folks everything they want to know when they want to know it, but you can expect more transparency on future updates and fewer surprise drops.

“At EA PLAY in June, we will give you the first details on what you can expect from Season 2. We’ve seen all the feedback on Season 1 and look forward to showing you the improvements we’re making. For Season 2 you can expect a Battle Pass with more meaningful content, the introduction of a new Legend, the debut of a new weapon . . . and you didn’t expect Kings Canyon to stay the same forever, did you?”

Lastly, regarding other games in development at Respawn, it is important to understand that there are entirely separate development teams working on Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Additionally, in order to fully support Apex Legends, we are pushing out plans for future Titanfall games. No resources from the Apex Legends team are being shifted to other titles in development here at the studio, nor are we pulling resources from the team working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

New ways to play are coming

During the recent Q&A Respawn Dev Jayfresh confirmed that new ways to play are coming to Apex Legends. But that was all Jay confirmed.

Community Tournament Guidelines

Best Loadouts Following 1.1.1 Patch

4. R-99 and R-301 - Neither weapon in this loadout was touched by the last update, which is exactly why both are still top-tier guns in the game. Having the luxury of shredding at close range with the R-99 and being able to pick off players medium to longer range with the R-301 results in a very strong loadout, especially for aggressive run-and-gun style players.

3. Havok (with Turbocharger) and Peacekeeper - The Havok was turned into a much better weapon following the patch, becoming surprisingly viable and potent, when used with a Turbocharger of course. Similar to the previous combo, having that kind of weapon paired with the Peacekeeper can prove to be a very dependable loadout.

2. Peacekeeper and R-301 - While it didn't receive any buffs or nerfs, the Peacekeeper is still one of the best guns in the game. It's devastating close range power combined with the R-301's ability to shoot well at medium to even long range can make for a powerful weapon duo.

1. Longbow DMR and R-99 - With all of the boosts that the Longbow received in the v1.1.1 patch, it became one of the strongest weapons in the game. Pairing it with the R-99, which some consider to be the absolute best gun, makes this loadout incredibly potent.

Why no Wingman or Spitfire?

Noticeably absent from the list of top four loadouts were the Wingman and Spitfire, two weapons that were considered to be the best before the v1.1.1 update.

In the video, the YouTube explained that the nerfs implemented for both guns made them drastically less viable than they were pre-patch, especially the Wingman, which is why they simply aren't good enough to be use in top-tier loadouts.

#10 - Enter the Apex: “1.1.1”

• Garrett • Kyle • Guest

Balance of balance! Enter the Apex returns with Garrett and Kyle discussing last week’s patch 1.1.1 changes. Caustic and Gibraltar have been upgraded with a fancy new damage reduction that sadly isn’t working. Sniping is in vogue as well after multiple changes to our long range weapons. While these changes are good and push the game towards a more balanced state, the community is left wondering what is the future of Apex Legends compared to the other juggernauts in the battle royal sphere.

April 16th Patch 1.1.1

At the start of Season 1, we previously talked about how our beloved Thicc Bois (Pathfinder, Gibraltar and Caustic) were getting crushed due to their hitbox size compared to other Legends. We first wanted to try adjusting hitboxes to better fit the model. For Pathfinder, this change worked very well. (Note: separately, we are actively investigating and working on fixing unrelated hit registration issues sometimes affecting all characters). However, after looking at the data and player feedback, Gibraltar and Caustic only improved slightly with the hitbox adjustments.

We don’t believe that hit box and character kit tuning is sufficient to bring Gibraltar and Caustic in line with their smaller competitors. Starting with Patch 1.1.1, Gibraltar and Caustic will get a new perk added to their passive - Fortified**, which reduces damage taken by 10%.** Over the week or two following this change, we will be watching how they perform with this additional protection and aggressively tune it if they are still underpowered relative to their size. Our goal is to ensure both Legends are viable picks by the end of this process.

Additionally, we’re also making a few quality of life kit adjustments to ensure their marquee abilities are a more impactful part of their individual playstyles.

This is currently bugged.

The negated 10% damage is going straight to HP.

Jayfresh_Respawn: Hey folks, I don't have ETA but we're aware and working on a fix internally that we're testing.

On the weapons side of the equation, we’ve made a number of changes to try to improve the power of long range gameplay. We’re reducing leg shot damage reductions on sniper category weapons, so you’re not punished for landing inaccurate shots at long distances. Given the semi-auto and low damage nature of our current sniper suite, coupled with the general speed and evasiveness of many Legend kits, it already takes several challenging shots to down someone at range. Because of this difficult sniper environment, we’re also reducing general sniper weapon sway and hitting the DMR with a few targeted buffs to make it more viable to engage Legends at range.

Separately from the sniper category, we are nerfing the Spitfire a bit, but our goal is to still keep it strong, as it’s a rarer spawning weapon. The Wingman is receiving a few magazine size nerfs, so that it doesn’t dominate the stock gun vs. stock gun battle early on due to its super high damage per bullet. Lastly, the Havoc is getting some general ammo and charge beam buffs to bring it in line as a viable energy ammo AR that competes with the R-301 and Flatine/Hemlok. The end goal is that the Havoc pressures a player’s ability to find Energy ammo, but is less dependent on finding attachments, whereas the R-301 and Flatline/Hemlok have less ammo pressure, but a higher reliance on finding more attachments to achieve power.

Leeeeeeee-RSPN: Yeah this is pretty much why we made the change. The gun was “end game ready” pretty much stock.

Gold Havoc

Gold R301

Gold Wingman

We felt that the ship was moving a bit too slow after watching player behavior so we’re speeding it up so players that like to drop later in the flight path don’t have to wait so long.

Redditor DestroyYesterday: Due to the change in speed of the drop ship you’re better off just waiting till you’re directly over the LZ to drop instead of dropping 900-1100 meters before the LZ previously. I’ve had to leave the squad drop and drop solo because of how many people still drop early and we get to the LZ super late. If you wait to drop you’ll get there 3-5 seconds earlier and that can make all the difference.

Mirage Win-rate:

Leeeeeeee-RSPN: He has a pretty solid win rate (unlike the 2 thicc boys we just buffed), so no planned changes in the near future.

Apex Legends Loses Momentum

Respawn Gauging Expectations

Respawn doesn’t want to update faster

“We make less frequent, better tested, higher impact balance changes in order to minimize the impacts on your time spent mastering the game”

Soft Cheating on the Rise

Via DarthAesder on r/apexlegends

“Cheaters are now reducing their aimbots to levels indiscernible to an anti cheat algorithm, but obvious enough from the receiving end of it. When spectating them you can see the aimbot locking on, but their cheats give a buffer of missed shots to fool the accuracy counter.”

A question and a comment for you. First, what do y'all think about melee weapons? Picking up a knife or box cutter or something that does slightly more damage than a punch, or maybe slightly less damage but swings faster? Might be something interesting to add later.

Second, I don't have any issues with bumping into other teams while dropping. You can't clip through players on the ground, so you shouldn't be able to do it in the air. Plus its fun to knock them off their path. You know, fun? Garrett ask Kyle what fun is.

Anyway love the show! Everyone should give an iTunes review RIGHT NOW!

#9 - Enter the Apex: “Sweet Justice”

• Garrett • Kyle • Guest

On this week’s Enter the Apex, a nice quality of life patch also brings sweet sweet justice. Garrett and Kyle return ready for some more Legends action. After a week of run-ins with the miscreants, a massive wave of hacker bans has been unleashed. But that's not all; last squad invites, performance updates and even a mysterious leaver penalty has been added to the game. Ideas, improves and your emails close out the episode.

1.1 Patch

Full Patch Notes on r/apexlegends

Patch 1.1 rolled out to Apex Legends late last week and brought with it a highly-requested feature.

If you’re playing without a full squad of three, Respawn has added the ability to party up with the last squad you played with. After the match you will see buttons in the lobby that display the last one or two people you played with and you can invite them to your squad.

If you don’t want to receive invites from random players you can turn this feature off for yourself.

Other Quality of Life Improvements

Bug Fixes

This patch did have a scary bug

CM Jayfresh posted a hotfix rundown on the Apex Legends subreddit late last week.

When the 1.1 update went live, players were unintentionally moved to the wrong servers that didn't have their persistence and this caused players accounts to appear reset with all progression lost.

Respawn ended up shutting down the live servers and removed the players that ended up on the wrong server. Affected players’ progress up until this update was still intact. Respawn rolled up the correct servers with the affected players’ saved progress and it appears all is well.

Another wave of bans hits hackers

The 1.1 patch notes did mention “Additional behind-the-scenes improvements for squashing cheaters.” and it would appear that another massive wave of bans have rolled out. If you’re unaware there is an Apex Legends cheat forum and users of that forum are voicing their frustration with no longer being able to play Apex Legends.

Reddit user terere captured their tears for us all to enjoy.

One cheating sack posted: I have been banned.. unfortunely.. I don’t know how they did it.. I don’t use the cheat for over 3 or 4 days.. It was just a waste of money.. I blame myself for this…

TierSMozambique confirmed that more Hardware bans were going out saying: everyone got banned mate. But who care its free game. We make new account but we need apex legends Chams works again..

User CantShootForShit replied: I cant play with new account.. My new account get banned after created and play one game

To which a steaming pile of no skill replied: I am HWID banned. Can anyone help and let me know what i can do to bypass this so i can play normal. everytime i create new account it gets banned.

Sticky Ziplines and Early Drop Collision fixes incoming

But not too fast. Respawn Developer going by the name Glutinous Rice Ball on the Apex Legends subreddit responded to concerns over how hard it is to detach from a zipline by saying:

“Good news: this is fixed locally. Bad news: it didn't make it in the next patch. It will be in the patch after that though!”

A follow up comment asked if there was “Any update on body block when coming out of the drop ship?”

To which Rice Ball said: “Same deal.” and later on clarified that there would be no collision during the drop phases whatsoever. From the dropship, all the way to the ground.

Thanks to The3aster13unny on the Amove for bringing this to my attention while I was traveling last week.

If you let Lifeline’s drone attach to you, and then close a door on the drone it will disappear but you will keep getting the healing effect of the drone. Then you can move wherever you like, however fast you care to.

Hello fellow Apex Predators,

You spoke last week about players disconnecting because of the game crashing in the middle of matches. I haven't experienced this much on PS4 yet but have experienced players leaving on purpose.

More and more since the game came out I see people leaving as soon as they are killed, even when there is a very real chance to respawn. Some people even go as far as leaving as soon as they are knocked down.

While some of these may be disconnections, the fact that it seems to happen as soon as they are killed but before their timer runs out is too much of a coincidence. I can only assume they'd rather start a new game right away, than wait for a potential respawn and have to gather weapons etc again.

While I see the logic on this I don't think it's very fair on your team mates. Also, even if you go completely out, if you hang around and watch your team I believe you again experience for the time they survive.

What are your thoughts? Have you seen this happen?

P.S Jokes on the person that quit the other day after going down in a firefight we easily won. We won that game as a two man squad.

Bryan Brady

First off love Into the Nexus and Enter the Apex. Long time heroes player. Just a small nit pick, I can only play Apex Legends on my ps4 because my computer is too old I would love to play it with keyboard and mouse on my ps4 but last time I tried it it wasn't supported. Do you think that will change and if it does will crossover gaming be viable?

P.S. would love to upgrade and play on my PC

In episode 8 Kyle was discussing his goal was to lower his DPI on his mouse until he can practice arm aiming. He should stick to a comfortable DPI that allows him to have a wide range of adjustment on his in-game sensitivity. For example there's no reason to go from 800 down to 400 if 800 is already comfortable for you . Because 800 dpi and a sensitivity of 1.5 in game is the exact same 360 degree turn as 400 dpi and 3.0 sens in game.

Seagull uses 1600 dpi. That's a way higher than what Kyle or Garrett uses. But his in game sens is 0.7. That's equal to 800/1.4, and 400/2.8. *They are all the same exact sensitivity!*

You may ask, "Changing DPI instead of in game sens still accomplishes the same goal, why is one better than the other?"

Adjusting your DPI affects all aspects of using your mouse, not just in Apex legends. Its best to have a DPI that feels good when playing other games as well as simply clicking away in Windows doing normal desktop stuff. Make your adjustments in the games you play instead of always changing your hardware settings.

However if you're rocking a DPI that's ridiculously high like 6000, then the game simply can't get low enough to compensate. You can turn your sens all the way down to 0.1 and coughing on your mouse can send your character into a wild 360 spin. So in this case then you would totally need to lower your DPI. But the sweet spot range for DPI seems to be anywhere between 400 and 1600. Because this gives you a range of adjustment in game.

Another tool that will help find what sens is best for him is to use a sensitivity calculator like https://www.mousesensitivity.net/

You can take your sens from a game like Overwatch and enter in you OW sens and your mouse DPI and it will tell you what sens to use in Apex that matches your OW sens. This is great if you feel like your OW sens fits you perfectly and need to establish a baseline in Apex.

Garrett learned something

DPI: 700

Sens: 2

Apparently I have to move my mouse just shy of a foot to do a full 360.

On this Enter the Apex, Garrett and Kyle run down all the rumors, scuttlebutt and conversation surrounding the season leaks. Thunderdome rebuild, L-Star, Wildlife and Wattson all theorized to rolling out this season. Despite these happy tidings, the hacker conversations have reached a new height in the community. With a falling playerbase demands are in to keep this game fresh and updated. How will respawn address it? Can it be done? Is the issue with the parents? Find out on today’s Enter the Apex.

The Apex Legends Mobile is a fake

Leaks Culminated in Fan Post

Thunderdome Rebuild

This has been on the minds of players since launch as a the newspaper featured in Apex’s opening cinematic contains an article in the bottom right talking about Thunderdome reopening after being rebuilt.

Maybe it will finally be a dome.

We’ve talked about this gun being datamined. It has already appeared in Titanfall and can be seen being wielded by Bloodhound on the Login-Screen. It has since shown up in the Wild Frontier trailer wielded by Pathfinder. Unless something really delays this weapon, we should see it any week now.

In Titanfall

Energy-based projectile weapon. Slow traveling projectile, but a lot of them. Didn’t need reloading (unless you overheated the weapon).

Repulsor going down and the attack of local wildlife

Season 1 promo images have shown the large antenna located in-game at Repulsor destroyed. In Titanfall repulsors emit a sound that keeps wildlife away. We can already see Leviathans walking around in the distance, but the Season 1 trailer showed smaller flying creatures simply referred to as Flyers if you didn’t blink while watching.

Is that Flyers may be hostile OR a rideable for a brief period after using a balloon to extend our time in the air.

Leviathan’s are a world hazard, but also mobile cover (that can kill you).

New Legend: Wattson

Teased in the intro newspaper and in the deep dive Gameplay trailer along with Octane. Octane appeared with one other silhouette at the end of the original deep dive trailer at Apex’s launch.

We’re all pretty much in the dark about Wattson except that she should have a tesla-esque trap that become electrified walls.

Console players can’t Hack, so they are teaming up

Number of players is falling on consoles allow those queing at the same time to “team up”

Can you guys do a quick segment on aiming energy weapons in particular? The thing that peeves me the most it the delay and the drastic bullet drop (Triple Take). I know it's basically leading shots but still.

There a lot of general statements and others that just plain confuse me here.

The delay I understand, but only on the Havok. The Devotion fires immediately upon pulling the trigger. It has a wind up to full firing speed but you can quickly fire off single, fairly accurate shots in semi-auto fashion if you manage your trigger pulls. Or if you know you’re about to enter a room early on and haven’t found yourself a Turbo yet just start firing before you actually mean to engage so that the Devotion is already at full firespeed and the recoil is more manageable.

Where I’m really confused is the comment about the bullet drop. Yes, it exists. But it’s not any worse than basically every other gun in the game and in some cases it’s better on some energy weapons.

Weapons Guy / Senior Designer Sean Slayback (@slaypiece on twitter) recently replied to 3 questions on Twitter.

1) I heard that Heavy slows enemies (does that mean it just stops their sprint? How much does the effect last?)

Sean: All ammo types will slow enemies down when you hit them.

2) I heard that Light shreds Armor (explain pls)

Sean: Energy ammo doesn't have extra shield breaking power. (Clarified later that no ammo class has extra shield breaking power)

3) Energy has no bullet drop?

Sean: Energy ammo projectiles aren't slowed by drag and have the fastest flight velocity in each weapon class.

Drag is a gradual slowing of “physical” bullets as they travel through the air.

Hello Kyle and Garrett,

the Apex season pass is a bit disappointing in my opinion and feels boring.

I brought 5 season passes in different BR games to max level and the daily and weekly challenges keeps me interested and you are able to progress way faster than in Apex.

Also the first kill for every legend per day isn't really a good implementation in my opinion.

You wanna get god on a few legends you enjoy and help the team instead of letting your team down by playing Gibraltar for example.

Tasks like get x kills with y weapon, land x times in y would or reach top 5 x times would be a better thing in my opinion.

On top the things you can unlock with the pass are not to great. Only a hand full of legend skins and some weapon skins. Stat trackers and finishers are not that interesting.

I get that they didn't had much time do create stuff but they reskinned or reused things from the regular loot boxes and they didn't reset the max level so that players above level 100 can unlock new stuff.

The new legend Octane on the other hand feels nice and is a great addition. Maybe the should give a new legend free per season to the customers of the season pass.

I hope Respawn addresses some of the community concerns and bring some things that feel more refreshing than the pure grind.

Also the fullscreen bug (I am already starting with -fullscreen), hackers, bad netcode and a reconnect feature should be addressed in the future.

Have a nice day guys and keep up the great podcasts.

How often do you solo queue and, when doing so, do you open chat with your temporary random team mates? What has your experience been? do you find this beneficial? Also have you turned on the "voice to text" functionality to see how bad Apex is at interpreting what others are saying and putting it in chat? (It can be pretty funny at times)

What are your thoughts on cross play and following fortnite in bringing crossplay to Apex?

CasualTerror (Pathfinder Main)

Hi friends,

I just want to start off by thanking you for giving me a way to ingest Apex at work. I also just wanted to give a PSA to all the Bangalore main's I see using their Ultimates, I believe, completely wrong. Rolling Thunder is not an ability designed to get your kill count up, the death from the sky you're looking for belongs to ya boi Gibraltar. Rolling Thunder is primarily a CC ability. Yes, it can kill but judging from the time between throw and the start of the barrage and spread and the amount damage ultimate does, to me, it seems like it’s supposed to make the other squad retreat a bit or bunker down and stop shooting you while you and your squad get to a better vantage and heal up. It's not ideal to throw it out to the enemy like a grenade, again if you want to do that play Gibby. You're supposed to throw it between you and the other squad or closer to you, to prevent that push that's coming because your squad is low or downed. Yes, it does have a disorientation effect but you shouldn't be throwing it while you are in the open. If you are in the open and in a firefight, you're going to have a bad time. Bangalore's Ultimate is better used around buildings, just not inside Bunker cause that's just dumb. Hopefully, this helped someone out there be a better Bangalore.

Please remember, I may be smiling but that also means I'm happy.

Enter the Apex #6: Jumping into Season 1

• Garrett • Kyle

The Battle Pass was announced but in the middle of the show! Hold out for it, because Garrett and Kyle have lots of other news coming at you. Jump Pads have mysteriously appeared in game in an apparent test for the upcoming champion release. Respawn is also coming for the cheaters and they are targeting their entire gaming machine as the culprit. Finally we talk hop-ups and sniping.

Join the Amovetv Discord and make some Apex friends! bit.ly/amovetvdiscord

Jump Pads Appear in game

These green jump pads started spawning randomly late last week.

I’ve only seen them around market. But not always in the same locations.

No official word from Respawn outside of cheeky emoji replies in the subreddit where, understandably, a lot of conversation has been going on around these pads.

You will jump higher if you press jump as the pad launches you.

Battle Pass Leaks Continue

The pass briefly appeared on Origin, but was pulled quickly.

What we learned from the false launch

Respawn community manager Jay Frechette got on Reddit after we all freaked out saying that the Battle Pass was “not coming out today." But that details are coming "very soon," though.

It’s now Monday and there’s still no details.

Respawn now issuing hardware bans to cheaters

> Kyle discussion about cheaters

The ban, apparently, is no longer just on the cheater’s account. Respawn is reportedly issuing permanent hardware bans, so the cheaters who create new accounts on their PCs are getting banned almost immediately.

The screenshot in the opening post of the aforementioned thread on the Apex Legends sub-Reddit revealed a cheater who has tried nearly everything, including changing the MAC address, reformatting, and partitioning the hard drives of the PC, all to no avail.

Ninja Paid $1 Million to stream Apex

An anonymous source told Reuters.

“We really wanted to create a day where you couldn’t escape Apex if you cared about games and we wanted it to feel like an event was happening everywhere around the globe on that day,” Drew McCoy, lead producer at the EA studio that created Apex Legends, said in an interview.

“We had streamers from all over Europe, LatAm, North America, Korea, Japan so that we could get our message out there and people would see the game,” he said.

Loving the podcast 👍🏻 also still loving apex. I play on Xbox1. I’m coming from a halo background so this game really fills the gap for a fun first person br that fortnite and pubg couldn’t fill. I love to snipe. But I feel like sniping is useless in this game, especially endgame. The mechanics are so difficult for long snipes. I don’t pick up snipers anymore. What do you guys think of sniping in apex?

Enter the Apex #5: A Flock of Wingmen

• Garrett • Kyle

Garrett and Kyle return for a glorious serpentine run through this week's big Apex Legends news. The first big balance patch hits Apex making appropriately baby steps for the new game. Next, we tackle a big topic for those of you new to computer shooters, DPI. All this, followed up with an email from the community.

March 7th Balance Patch

With designers Lee, Sean, and Brent.

Balance Goals

Devs: Our adjustments are attempting to move it more into the hand cannon space and away from full auto Deagle.

We’ve also adjusted the rate of fire of the Peacekeeper with Shotgun Bolt attachment, so players will have a larger window of vulnerability if they miss their shot.

For both Guns

Energy Weapon Increase

Devs: ...the scarcity of energy ammo and lower number of energy weapons overall has made those weapons difficult to main, so we’ve increased energy weapon and ammo availability.

Why no P2020 or Mozambique buffs?

Lots of Disconnect Bugs Fixed

Addressing Legend Balance and Hitbox Feedback

TL;DR: Our goal is to be able to have characters with different rig sizes, hitboxes and ability kits, and still have each character be roughly equal in power level, win rate and viability of pick.

Major balance changes:

If these adjustments prove to be insufficient, we’ll consider additional adjustments during Season 1

Minor balance changes:

“As of today we’ve banned over 355K players on PC through Easy-Anti-Cheat.”

“We are working on improvements to combat cheaters and we’re going to have to be pretty secretive about our plans… We are reaching out and working directly with experts, both within and outside of EA, in this area that we can learn from.”

They’re also “Scaling up their anti-cheat team so they have more dedicated resources.”

Finally, they’re adding a report feature on PC to report cheaters in game that goes directly to Easy-Anti-Cheat.

They fixed quite a few crash bugs with the most recent patch. They recently had Nvidia visit respawn to sort through the crashing issues. They’re having AMD visit the studio soon for the same reason.

Much like adding a report feature for cheaters they’ll be adding a Crash Report system in for Season 1.

Reminder: If you’re an RTX user that’s been experiencing the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, Nvidia has released a driver update for RTX to address this issue.

We’ve heard the suggestions from you folks asking for a reconnect to match feature. We are currently not pursuing this for a couple reasons:

  1. It opens a lot of risk for players to abuse it.
  2. We believe the resources needed to build, test, and release it are better spent focused on fixing stability issues so that the feature isn’t necessary.

There is no easy fix for this one.

We’ve seen these reports and are narrowing down causes and making improvements. If this could be fixed by spending money on faster/more servers we would do it, but unfortunately there is no silver bullet on this one. We’re just rolling up our sleeves and digging in. We’ll keep you updated on any progress we make.

Dots Per Inch DPI

Arm not wrist movements

Let’s start with the most basic explanation of what Dots Per Inch means in regards to a mouse. I have my mouse set to 1600 DPI for non-gaming use. This means that if I move my mouse one inch, the pointer on my screen will move 1600 pixels. On my 1080p monitor which is 1920 pixels wide that means I’m almost spanning the entire width within only an inch of movement. I love this for browsing and doing layout in Photoshop. This is terrible for shooters.

It is generally accepted that a lower DPI is better for shooters. I have mine set to 800 for Apex, but a lot of pros and streamers set theirs even lower.

Most gaming mice nowadays lets you adjust your DPI. You don’t have to spend obscene amount of money on a mouse. Just make sure that whatever mouse you’re getting, that it allows you to fine tune your DPI.

Mouse Mat

Get the largest mat that you can fit on your desk. You’re going to want to move your entire arm. Wrist movements require too high a sensitivity to be consistently accurate. So you’re going to want a mouse mat that is wide enough to allow sweeping arm movements and deep enough so that you can rest your forearm on your desktop.

Great PC Gamer Article: https://www.pcgamer.com/aim-training/

Who are your go to champions and your least favourite and why? Also sub question, who would you recommend to newer players?

My go to is always Lifeline, free healing in a Battle Royale feels a bit like cheating, chuck in the faster healing for mid fight scrambles and the rez shield and I’m in love.

Unrelated, been a long time since I’ve listened to you folks as my gaming tastes wandered away. I jumped for joy when I heard about the podcast and have been loving it

Apex Legends Announces 50 million players

Apex Legends was leaked a full year ago

But no one believed it.

Possible Leak: Octane

Apex rumors and scuttlebutt continue. This time with what possibly may be the games first new hero: Octane. Rumor has it this hero will have a stimpack ability like in Titanfall.

Debate heated up around Octane when a photo of hero art in Photoshop was posted. Then an anonymous source sent DailyEsports the original high-res art instead of a photo of their screen.

Same Source is claiming Battle Pass info

Same anonymous source that sent DailyEsports the Octane art claims to know how the Battle Pass will function:

Year 1 Roadmap for reference

New Battle Pass, Legends, Weapons, and Loot every season (4 Seasons this year starting in March, June, September, & December)

Weapon Leaks

C.A.R. SMG and the Proto Hold Beam

The CAR was in both Titanfall games. It was a slower firing SMG. It hit harder and had less recoil. No stats were datamined. Would probably go between the R-99 and the R-301?

The Proto Hold Beam would be a brand new gun to the Titanfall universe.

“The weapon’s description claims that the weapon drains energy from robotic targets so that you can redirect it toward enemies. This new leaked weapon description confuses things, as only the loot ticks and the Legend Pathfinder are currently the only targets that could be considered to be robotic in the game.” Titans?

L-STAR Release Date Datamined

Gaming Intel dataminers found the script for the Havoc and the L-STAR. Both have numbers associated with them.

“While it may be a bizarre coincidence, the Havoc Energy Assault rifle was released on the 20th of February. Due to this Gaming INTEL believes that the 30 beside the L-STAR line is in fact referencing the release date of the weapon.

Of course, if we are going by standard calendars, there is no such thing as the 30th of February. In which case, if our interpretation of the game files is indeed correct, the L-STAR will be released on Saturday the

2nd of March.”

For those of you that didn’t play Titanfall 2, the L-STAR was a rapid fire light machine gun that used energy ammo. When players were killed by the weapon their bodies would explode, as if they had been hit by a projectile. The weapon was brutally effective in short range engagements, but fell off hard at longer ranges.

Data-mined stats

“Due to these overwhelming stats, and the fact the game files make no reference to additional attachments, it is widely believed the L-STAR will only be available from care packages.”

Strategy - Positioning

Via FeralFish on the Amove Discord

Could you discuss positioning? I've recently paid a lot more attention to my position with respect to my squad (stay close in case a fight breaks out) and the enemies (don't shoot until you're in a good position to engage), and I think it's helping a lot!

A good way to think about positioning relative to your teammates is time. I call this the 5-second rule. This means that you should be able to get to your squadmates within 5 seconds.

This gives you a good amount of flexibility thanks to the heavy amount of verticality in the one map we have at the moment. You can be pretty far away from you squad and still be able to get to them quickly if you’re above them.

Which brings us to...

General positioning

It’s not just for Batman. Be mindful of your surroundings. Pay attention to the potential cover, and flanking routes around you. Especially if you’re seeking out a fight or are in a hot area.

Don’t stay too close

Grouping up too tightly just makes your entire squad easier to kill.

Grenade Spam and Barrage Ultimates

Is a very popular strategy right now and grouping up just adds value to your opponents’ grenades. Not to mention the prevalence of Bangalore and her barrage ultimate.

Hey Bamboozlers!

I love the show and jumped on board as soon as I heard on The Instance that you launched Enter The Apex. I love the game, but since launch so many of us have had the same issue: crashes to desktop. Myself and what feels to be about 30% (from what i've seem on the subreddit and forums) of the playerbase have this same problem.

My PC is beyond the recommended specs, yet since launch, I have consistently crashed on average every 3 or 4 games. I have searched for any answers and ways to troubleshoot the problem with the game and tried them all; downing visuals, task manager 'easyanticheat' changes, reinstalling everything. Nothing seems to affect it and no one should have to down visuals just to participate in the fun.

EA and Respawn seem to be entirely silent about this. Do they acknowledge this problem and will/when it will be fixed?  I feel like they should be focusing on stabilizing the playerbase before balance and new content patches. Many of us are at a point that it isn't worth playing until they fix this. Could you please aim a spotlight on this issue for us that would love to continue playing, but are heartbroken for our teammates when we seem to abandon them with only 2 or 3 squads left.

Continue the great show!

Respawn Responses

Can you address the disproportionate hitboxes between legends? The pathfinder hitbox seems much bigger than the actual model, as demonstrated in another thread on here.

We are definitely aware of it and we were actually discussing it today. I can't say anything more for now but we hear you guys.”

Rumors & Leaks

Season 1 to Feature Both Paid & Free Battle Passes

Gaming Intel is back with anonymous sources claiming Apex will have both paid and free Battle Passes.

There’s really no information in here other than the split of a free and premium Battle Pass.

Ranked “Leagues” Mode Leaked

Via Gaming Intel:

“... mainly reference a ticket system that will allow players to compete in the ranked mode. These tickets will be gifted to players for free every so often, as we can see from the strings that tell players when they will receive their next ticket. They will also be earnable through challenges that the player can complete, though these challenges will be limited to a certain number at a time.”

“If our understanding of the strings in the files are correct earning a ticket puts you into a free qualification timer, during which you can engage in qualification matches to try and enter the ranked leagues. If you pass through the qualification run you can enter the leagues proper, and if you don’t you have to try again.”

“Alternately it seems that there is also a string of code that allows you to purchase qualification outright. This means that you would skip past the qualification process entirely and immediately enter the leagues mode proper.”

Strategy Doc for keeping track

Kyle’s Beginner Corner

Hi guys!

Long time ITN listener here. You just made me play my first Battle Royal game, not counting that one hour I tried out Fortnite on Switch and got very confused, the game having no tutorial whatsoever.

Speaking of tutorials, luckily Apex does have one, but I still needed quite a few games to understand what was going on around me.  Knowing about color coded ammo helped a lot, and I also learned about the difference between chest armor and helmets, and WTF is a knockdown shield and how do I use it...

That said, I feel like the game needs a sandbox mode which allows you to test out stuff.

Here's a useful thing I discovered today: During the tutorial, when you're being asked to pick up those weapons, there's actually a lot more weapons around you than you might immediately notice. If you walk a bit left and right, you can find all the different kinds of weapons with their respective ammo. Looking further, there's also several zip lines you can use if you want.

What I'm missing is the ability to try out those weapon attachments, grenades and healing items. I'm at the point where I'm picking up random attachments and still mistaking those flame grenades for health packs.

Any tips on when to aim down sights, and how to find a first weapon after landing?

@EnterApex Thoughts on the potential of pathfinders grapple? I can see some people using it in some pretty clever ways already, imagine a team of 3 pathfinders! Also the survey beacons shouldn't be in random positions each round to make it more strategic. Loving the pod so far 👍

I wish each class of gun had a visible tag. i.e.- Sniper, SMG, LMG, etc. Do you think this would be a good addition? Or do I just need to "git gud" and memorize gun names/classes? Is this intentional in BR games to distinguish good players from less experienced ones?

Apex Legends (Titanfall Hero Battle Royale)

1.) New BR Player versus Enthusiast

General Overview: What makes it unique?

Dropping onto the map
