WELCOME LETTER

Dear Dancers and Parents,

Welcome to Joffrey Colorado Springs!

Our staff and faculty are gearing up to give you an exciting and fulfilling summer intensive experience. We thank you for your patience and flexibility with us as we navigate this new paradigm, and we promise that it will be worth the wait! Though this summer looks very different in terms of protocol, class structure, extra-curricular experiences, and even location, we are all looking forward to being in the studio together again and getting back to what we love to do, which is train and create meaningful art.

Virtual orientation will occur on the Friday before the start of your first week at 3 PM CST. We would like to invite all dancers and parents to attend so that everyone is made aware of all protocols and procedures we will be implementing for this intensive.

Please contact support@joffreyschool.com or call us at 888.438.3808 if you have any questions or concerns that you would like to share. I wish you safe travels to Denton, Texas, and we will see you soon.

STUDIO LOCATIONS AND DIRECTIONS

The Joffrey Colorado Springs program is hosted by Texas Women’s University (TWU). Included in this packet is a campus map with all the buildings that house our studios. Our studios are located in Dance & Gymnastics Laboratory (DGL – Rooms 208 and 210) and Pioneer Hall (Studio 328). More detailed driving directions from Dallas or Fort Worth can be found at the end of the packet along with a campus map. A Scheduled time for dancers to walk to their designated classes will be posted throughout the hall and handed out at orientation.

Directions Between Studio Locations

TWU is located northwest of Dallas and northeast of Fort Worth. Our proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth Area provides our students and faculty with abundant cultural, social and educational opportunities. Denton, a community of about 100,000 people, is home to TWU and the University of North Texas. Find out more about Denton at DiscoverDenton.com.

From Dallas: Take Interstate I-35 to Denton. Take exit 464, which becomes Dallas Drive. Stay on Dallas Drive, which passes under a railroad bridge and curves to the right, where it becomes Bell Ave. Continue on Bell Avenue. After crossing McKinney Street, Bell Avenue will curve to the left (you must be in the left lane to make the turn). Ahead of you will be the TWU campus with its distinctive high-rise buildings. If you are commuter students, at the intersection of Bell Avenue and Administration Drive you will see the Dance and Gymnastics Laboratory (DGL) across the intersection to your right. Parking will be available in the lot in front of the residence halls and next to Pioneer Hall.

From Fort Worth: Take Interstate 35W to Denton, exiting at University Drive (US 380). Turn right on University Drive. Follow University Drive to Bell Avenue, which runs through the TWU campus. Turn right on Bell Avenue. As you drive south on Bell Avenue you will see Stark Hall (the dormitory) on your right. If you are dropping a student off at the dormitory you will see the parking on the left side of the street across from Stark Hall. If you are dropping off a commuter student, continue south on Bell and the first building you pass on your left will be Pioneer Hall followed by the Dance and Gymnastics Laboratory (DGL) also on your left. At the intersection with Administration Drive make a left. Parking will be available in the lot in front of the residence halls and next to Pioneer Hall.

US Highway 380 is the major east-west thoroughfare in Denton. Known in the city as University Drive, it borders the northern edge of the TWU campus.

TWU's high-rise buildings are visible for miles, so keep an eye out for them as you approach Denton.

Campus Parking

Free Parking is available on TWU campus.. Parking is located next to the DGL Building and next to the Pioneer Hall building. For additional parking options, please see the parking attendant located across from the DGL building and Near the Student Union for further direction.

Commuter Pick Up/ Drop Off Instructions

Parents of commuters will receive a laminated door hanger to hang on the windows when they are picking up their student. Upon arrival please park next to the DGL Building to form a line, we will then call the students to the car for pick up.

COVID-19

Staff Preparedness

This COVID-19 Response Plan will be communicated through online and in person training to all staff. The completion of training will be required and documented within our HR Department. In addition, all staff will receive in-person training, have the opportunity to discuss and ask questions prior to the start date of each camp. The Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director/Site Manager, and Head Resident Advisor/Intern will be our designated Health Supervisors and will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety protocols are being successfully implemented and followed by each staff member and participant.

Our Site Management Team will closely monitor how effective the response plan is being implemented by daily evaluations, logs, and feedback from the on-site team. Both teams will work closely together and will update health and safety training protocols as necessary.

Health Protocols

Face Coverings

All staff and participants are required to wear face coverings when within six feet of other individuals. This includes:

  • During check-in & check-out.
  • Inside buildings and while walking on campus from one building to another.
  • Anytime there could be an interaction with any TWU staff or other visitors on campus.
  • If JBS staff or participants leave the cafeteria to go to the restroom, they must wear a face covering.
  • Cloth face coverings must be worn at all times including in the studio, or with their cohorts in the classroom.

The exception will be when the participants are eating, as long as social distancing is implemented. While in the studio, dancers will be assigned a studio for as much of the day as possible without the switch of groups for the week. JBS staff will maintain social distancing when feasible and not allow any hands on corrections in class. Face masks in the studio are always encouraged.

All staff, campers, and parents/families will be required to wear face coverings at check-in and check-out.

Self Isolation:

Prior to arrival on campus, staff and participants will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days prior to arrival to camp. Self isolation includes limiting exposure to non-family members, wearing a face mask around non-family members, avoiding large crowds/gatherings, and limiting unnecessary travel.

Self-quarantine:

Should anyone feel under the weather, please do not attempt to come to class. Please stay home unless going to the doctor and self quarantine.

If you are experiencing respiratory issues, have been exposed to someone who may have covid or experiencing a fever, please do not attempt to come to class. Stay in your dorm room or home. Notify the site manager immediately at shannon@joffreyballetschool.com. A single dancer will be issued to a dorm room to ensure safety and social distancing.

Self Quarantine Protocol

  • If a student shows or suspects any respiratory, fever or other COVID-19 symptoms they should alert a staff member immediately. Students with flu or cold symptoms will be instructed to self quarantine in their room and use a bathroom designated by the dorm. If a student has a roommate, they will be relocated to a single room.
  • If a student is diagnosed by a doctor to have COVID-19 symptoms, they will be relocated to a different wing in the dorm where they will be assigned to a new room and bathroom.

Temperature Checks

The JBS Site Manager and Head Intern/Resident Advisor will be required to take the temperature of each participant and staff member each morning. JBS will follow these steps:

Site Manager:

  1. The Site Manager will wear a face covering while taking temperature checks before the first classroom session each morning.
  2. The Site Manager will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before touching the thermometer, if available, he/she will wear gloves.
  3. Participants waiting for a temperature check will stand six feet apart from each other.
  4. The Site Manager will use a touchless thermometer and will not take temperatures orally. If participants bring their own thermometers the Site Manager will observe the participant take his/her own temperature.

In addition to daily temperature screenings, our Site Manager and Athletic Trainer ask participants to report any symptoms such as: cough, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or fatigue that is outside of the normal.

Reporting Protocol:

The well-being of our JBS Students, Faculty, and TWU communities are our highest priority. We are committed to closely monitoring, reporting, and cooperating with TWU's contract tracing and notification procedures. Our JBS Site Manager will execute the reporting process. The Site Manager will inform Student Health Services at 940.898.382 if any staff or participants show signs or symptoms of COVID-19.

JBS understands that this will allow TWU to provide the resources and support needed, and also determine if others were exposed and may be at risk. Each situation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and JBS will cooperate with TWU risk management for each case.

Managing Groups

JBS will implement interns/chaperones on campus to limit the number of interactions with multiple participants. Dancers will be led by the same JBS staff member throughout the week.

The participants will be required to eat with their assigned interns during meal times. We will stagger the arrival to the cafeteria to limit contact between staff and students as much as possible. Staff and participants will be encouraged not to mingle with other cohorts in the dorms, during breaks, walking times, and classroom sessions.

JBS will work with TWU to secure exclusive use of restrooms in the secluded hallway of DGL and Pioneer Hall and limit the number of staff and dancers in the hallway and restrooms at one time.

Off-Campus Field Trips/Excursions

Dancers and staff will be required to stay on campus throughout the week of camp, except the staff that will go to the store for supplies the day prior to the start of camp. Please bring supplies and snacks in advance as we will not be able to go to the store unless an immediate emergency. In addition, JBS will not allow parents or other visitors to observe any part of the intensive.

Parents of dancers who are commuting will not be allowed to enter the facilities.

General Best Practices for Safety

All Staff & Participants will be reminded to:

  • Avoid close contact with others whenever feasibly possible.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Monitor your health. Be alert for symptoms. Watch for fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms.

Cleaning Protocol:

JBS will be prepared with the appropriate PPE supplies and staffing for multiple cleanings per day of common spaces. Touch areas will be specifically attended to such as elevator buttons, door handles, ballet barres, copy and fax machines, stair railings, and bathrooms/dressing room areas. Cleaning supplies and hand sanitizer will be sufficient to maintain a safe working environment with cleanings multiple times/day.

Bleach solutions or alcohol solutions with at least 70% isopropyl alcohol or 60% ethanol will be used. We are following the CDC cleaning recommendations.  For further details and other cleaning and disinfecting guidelines: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/disinfecting-building-facility.html

BEST PRACTICES TO PREVENT TRANSMISSION OF FLU AND COVID-19

We continue to encourage all students to follow good practices to prevent the spread of illness. Some examples are below:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Twenty seconds is roughly the time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces often (phones, desks, keyboards, door handles, etc).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Practice good respiratory hygiene: Cover your cough or sneeze and immediately throw tissues in the trash followed by hand washing.
  • If you’ve not already gotten one, a flu shot is encouraged. Although it will not protect against COVID-19, it can protect or impact the severity of the flu.
  • If you are ill or have respiratory symptoms (coughing, sneezing, fever), please stay home and contact your program coordinator/director and Tia.
  • Practice and encourage students to follow social distancing rules: Stay at least 3 feet away from others, or more when possible, especially anyone with symptoms.
  • Wash hands before preparing food, eating, drinking, and after using the restroom.
  • Do not share food or beverages with other dancers.
  • Do laundry often and clean your bed sheets and pillow cases. If possible, launder items using the warmest appropriate water setting for the items and dry items completely.
  • Take your trash out daily then wash your hands immediately after doing so.
