CAMP COUNSELOR & BIRTHDAY PARTY TEAM MEMBER
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Camp Counselor & Birthday Party Team Member will facilitate games and activities for children ages 5-12 years old during any one of NYA’s youth programs and/or events – Summer Camp, Birthday Parties, School Holiday Camps, After-School Programs. Counselors will lead a variety of sports/PE activities and ensure that participants have a positive, enjoyable, safe and FUN experience. Counselors are responsible for maintaining safety procedures and communicating effectively with children and parents.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Leads, and implements sports/PE games and activities for children
- Supervises youth participants and ensures their safety, participation, comradery, and overall engagement
- Maintains a schedule for camp/event participants
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Set-up and break-down of event/program equipment and space and ensures proper cleanliness
- Assists in maintaining accurate event/program records including, incident reports, sign-in/sign-out, registration and payment verification
- Mediates and reports participant disputes
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety and procedure guidelines associated with event/program
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of a variety of recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic sports skills and instruction; and knowledge of sports rules and regulations
- Ability to work with and communicate well with children ages 5-12 years old and their parents as well as other staff
- Ability to lead and involve participants in various sports activities
- Ability to provide first aid and emotional support and assistance to children ages 5 -12
- CPR and first aid certifications required upon offering
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds waist high
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions while performing job functions.
