SEPTEMBER 2023
Following up on our April, May and June newsletters, please read on for the highlights so far and important updates for the months ahead.
SCOUTMASTER’S CORNER
WELCOME to all of our returning and new Scouts and families! We've had a great start to the year, with quite a big group of new Scouts joining us. Last year at this time, there were 25 scouts in New Delhi; this year we stand at 43, a 75% increase! With that increase comes the added need for parents to step up as volunteers [Editor’s Note: scroll down for more info!], and a number of you have, for which we are excited and grateful. Thank you!
This summer, 15 Scouts and 5 adults representing Troop 60B and 60G attended the Far East Council Trilogy Camp at Camp Nepal in Kakani (2-hr drive up the hills from Kathmandu). This was a rugged survival experience for all of us, in beautiful surroundings, working shoulder-to-shoulder with over 40 BSA units from 17 different countries. We braved rain, mud, and leeches for a week, earning many merit badges and other fun achievements (e..g, Everest Award, Scout Olympics), while learning a lot about ourselves and our Troops. We also had a chance to tour around a few interesting sites in Kathmandu and learn a bit about Nepalese culture. Please enjoy these highlights, as shared by our participants!
Summer camp is the ultimate scouting experience, a chance to employ all our Scout skills and leadership knowledge in the Patrol Method, while also learning new skills and making friends along the way. All of us adult leaders were very proud of the positive attitude and determination the Scouts exhibited in dealing with the conditions and in pushing hard in their activities. Next summer there looks to be several summer camp options, and we hope to have an even greater participation rate. More information to come soon!
Keep on Scouting!

MONTH IN REVIEW & PHOTO GALLERY
Troop 60B had the chance to bring eleven Scouts and two adult leaders, and Troop 60G had the chance to bring two adult leaders and three Scouts (plus a Lone Scout and parent) to the Far East Council’s Camp Nepal this summer.
At camp, Scouts were offered a range of merit badges to work on during the day. Troop 60G won an award for being the Honor Troop, in recognition of being energetic, clean, and organized. Troop 60G’s Blue Jay Patrol Leader Jaya Stapleton also got recognized for staying dry during the wilderness survival overnight, an experience in which Scouts have to make a shelter using natural resources, then sleep the whole night outside in it. Troop 60B Scoutmaster Tyler won the camp’s Coffee Cup Award, earned by leading Scouts while still being able to hold a coffee cup in your hand. (It's meant for adults that help Scouts without doing everything for them.)
Overall, both Troop 60B and Troop 60G had a great experience at Camp Nepal!

Troop 60 holds a Court of Honor three times a year to formally recognize the Scouts who have moved up in rank and any merit badges earned since the previous COH. This is a time for family and friends to come celebrate our Scouts and enjoy each other’s company. At our August 13 COH, we also celebrated a hugely successful summer of Troop 60 Scouting.
By the numbers, our Scouts accomplished a lot this summer:
Congratulations, Troop 60!
VOLUNTEER CORNER
The BSA Troop Committee sets troop policies and handles administrative functions, allowing the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters to focus on working directly with the Scouts. This year’s Troop 60 Committee is:
Please contact Runa Gokhale if you’re interested in a specific vacancy or stepping up in any other capacity! Project-based volunteers are also welcome, such as to update our extremely outdated website (perhaps with help from Scouts working on their Communication Merit Badge requirements) and also for…
Merit Badge Counseling
BSA offers more than 135 merit badges — from American Business to Woodwork! — and Merit Badge Counselors serve as their teachers and counselors along the way. If you’re interested in working with Scouts on any specific merit badges, please indicate your interest using our Merit Badge Counselor Sign-Up Form (contact Advancement Coordinator Michele Barker if you have any questions).
UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN
