  • STEP 1:  Read “Trashing Paradise” on page 581-595.

  • STEP 2:  As you read, annotate the text AND create a classification map with the following branches:
  • Key Ideas (minimum of 5)
  • Important Vocabulary (minimum of 5)

  • Understand the impact of aerospace and computer technology on life in Texas and predict how future scientific discoveries and technological innovations might affect life in Texas. You will identify the accomplishments of some notable individuals of the twentieth century.

Engage and Practice (What do we want you to do?):

Instructions:

  • Step 1:  Watch the introduction videos, “World War II on the Texas Homefront” and “Aerospace and NASA”. (both are found on the step-by-step guide provided in your Social Studies Google Classroom)
  • Step 2:  Read or listen to the passage “Texas Blasts Off Into the Future.” (both are found on the step-by-step guide)
  • Step 3: Watch the video, “Presidents from Texas”
  • Step 4: Read or listen to the passage  “Notable Texans of the 20th Century.” (both are found on the step-by-step guide)

 Step 5:  Using the step-by-step guide, click step 5 to read this week's writing prompt and submit your answer using the link.

Students are expected to solve problems that deal with...intervals of time...using addition, subtraction, multiplication or division.  

Solving Problems Involving Time - Students will work through many examples of problem solving involving elapsed time and practice solving problems.

Solving Problems Involving Time  - Complete the Nearpod Assignment under Classwork in Google Classroom. All instruction and work is in the Nearpod.

Lesson Delivery (What do we want you to learn?):

  • The student is expected to explore and describe examples of traits that are inherited from parents to offspring, such as eye color or the shapes of leaves, and behaviors that are learned, such as reading a book or a wolf pack teaching pups to hunt effectively.

Engage and Practice (What do we want you to do?):

Click on the Inherited Traits and Learned Behaviors link and it will take you to your google classroom.  Go to your google classroom page for science and click on the assignment: Inherited Traits and Learned Behaviors Nearpod. Complete the whole Nearpod.

Create and Submit (What do we want you to turn in?):

 Create Google Slides: All About My Inherited Traits and Learned Behaviors

Create a slideshow about you! Please include the following on your presentation:

  1. Title page with your name.  
  2. A description of what a Learned Behavior is.  
  3. 3 of your learned behaviors (Include a picture of each learned behavior you have and describe how you learned that behavior.)
  4. A description of what an Inherited Trait is.
  5. 3 of your inherited traits (Include a picture of each of your traits and description about who you inherited that trait from.)

Optional Extension Opportunity (What do we want you to do if you want to extend your learning?):

  1. It's a Tough World Out There! Research and design a page for a book about animals with

strange traits.

  1. Inherited Traits vs. Learned Behavior Game See how quickly you can correctly identify inherited traits and learned behaviors.

  1. Parental Puppets You will make parent and offspring puppets to show what you know about inherited traits and learned behaviors! This project will use your construction skills.
