The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to keep and disclose information about certain criminal activity in the university environment.

Who is a Campus Security Authority? (CSA)

Responsibility for Student / Campus Security

Police, Security, Fire Department, Residence Life, Captains, Field Leads, Access Point Monitors, Building Coordinators, Travel Leaders, Chaperones

Responsibility for Student / Campus Activities

Athletics, Recreation,  Student Engagement,  Student Club Advisors, Responsible Adults

Likely to Receive Reports of Criminal Activity

Title IX, Human Resources, Directors

Areas Covered by Clery Act (Clery Geography)

Campus

Includes buildings, residence halls, parking, walkways and outdoor areas.

Non-Campus

Off-campus spaces owned or controlled by UAF that students frequent. Control means  a  written agreement with the owner / manager to use the space (lease, reservation, email giving permission).

Public Property

That is adjacent to and accessible from campus. (Roads, parks, etc.)

Crimes CSAs Must Report

Primary Crimes

Murder, manslaughter, rape, statutory rape, incest, fondling, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson

Hate Crimes

Any primary crime, or theft, simple assault

intimidation, property damage – where the victim was intentionally targeted due to bias.

VAWA Crimes

Domestic Violence

Dating Violence

Stalking

Arrests or Referrals 

Liquor Laws

Drug Laws

Weapons Laws

Student Travel Lodging CSAs Must Report

Any location where students are lodged for more than one night

Any location where students are lodged on an annual basis (no matter the length of stay)
