NEW CLA ONLY Motion RE CLA curriculum committee:

Motion for AY23-24 for every 5 RF in a department = 1 slot. This is 8 members and there will be + 1 @ large representative.

Until the reorganization our curriculum committee had one representative slot for each of the 9 departments:

Academic Writing and Reading (3 RF); Ethnic and Religious Studies (4 RF); Fine Arts/Creative Writing (7 RF); History (3 RF); Literature and Language (5 RF); Philosophy (4 RF); SCWA- Professional Communication (6 RF); SCWA- Technical Communication (5 RF); Social Sciences (6 RF)

With the reorganization, the number of departments has shrunk from 9 to 6: Ethnic, Gender, Historical and Philosophical Studies (11 RF); Fine Arts (5 RF); Professional Communication (6 RF); Social Sciences (6 RF); Technical Communication and Interaction Design (5 RF); Writing, Literature and Language. (10 RF)

Are 6 members enough to represent the range of disciplines in the college when reviewing course proposals?

  • 1 per dept; 3 or 2 @ large (filled by anyone and/or larger dept)
  • Reserved for WLL; EGHP for the first year, then after
  • @ large may allow for a coup of sorts
  • 🡪 2 for WLL (get familiar with boundaries, how committee works)
  • 🡪 representations should be tied to individual disciplines (what about social sciences since they’re technically multidisciplinary)
  • 🡪 keep # @ 9

V.A Action items:

Adopt standing rules of FA

Seconded; passed

NEW MOTION:

Motion: The Faculty Advisory Committee for community engagement should be reinstated and staffed entirely by faculty. It should work with the new CEC.

Rationale: CEC has a history of not taking faculty work seriously, is there going to be real shared governance with the new CEC? The FAC was disbanded and showed a lack of shared governance. What’s the overall charge of the CEC?

Seconded; passed

NEW MOTION:

Change language to in all committees from Ethnic Studies Department to “ethnic studies program.”

Rationale: This is the title of the program now that it is part of the larger EGHP department.

Seconded; passed
