ARIZONA GAY VOLLEYBALL ASSOCIATION

CODE OF CONDUCT

All rules will be strictly enforced.  Misconduct may result in the penalizing of any and all individuals or teams involved and include events related to Arizona Gay Volleyball Association (AZGV).

The term “individual” includes but is not limited to: manager, coach, player, and spectator.  

Each team is responsible for the conduct of its individuals.

1. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of any demonstration of unsportsmanlike conduct.

2. No Individual except the Coach or Captain Shall: Discuss with an opposing team’s coach or captain, in any manner, the decision reached.

3. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of objectionable demonstration of dissent by throwing balls; or any other forceful action.

4. No Individual Shall: Use profane, obscene or vulgar language in any manner, at any time, on or off the court.

5. No Individual Shall: Drink alcoholic beverages in any city facility parking lot. Alcoholic beverage permits are restricted.

6. No Coach or Player Shall: Drink alcoholic beverages while playing in any league or tournament games.

7. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of an abusive verbal attack upon any individual on or off the court.

8. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of throwing balls or any other object in the direction of another individual.

9. No Individual Shall: At any time threaten any form of physical attack upon an individual.

10. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of using unnecessary rough tactics in the play of the game.

11. No Individual Shall: Appear on the court of play at any time in an intoxicated condition or under the influence of any type of drug that may infringe upon the individual’s safety or the safety of others.

12. No Individual Shall: Be guilty of damaging, destroying or stealing property of any kind.

13. No Individual Shall: At any time lay a hand upon, shove, strike or be guilty of any form of physical attack upon an official or individual.

In most cases (but not all), violations (even if they are only perceived violations) of:

• items one (1) and/or two (2) will most likely result in a warning,
• items three (3), four (4), and/or five (5) will most likely result in a warning or possible ejection,
• items six (6), seven (7), eight (8), nine (9), and/or ten (10) will most likely result in ejection from the game or possible league or tournament suspension,
• and finally items eleven (11), twelve (12), and/or thirteen (13) will most likely result in a league or tournament suspension.

By signing the Arizona Gay Volleyball Association liability waiver, each league member agrees to abide by the Sports Code of Conduct at all times when attending any AZGV sanctioned event.  Furthermore, each league member acknowledges that AZGV board members reserve the right to punish any perceived infringement of unsportsmanlike conduct or violation of the Code of Conduct on how they see fit, which could result in punishment including but not limited to removal from all Arizona Gay Volleyball Association events and membership.

Certain penalties, such as warnings and ejections from games that are enforced by board members and decisions made by any board member will be adhered to by the board.  Board members, including team representatives, are expected to enforce the Code of Conduct and report any violations to a member of the board.  Board members may enforce penalties at the time of infraction.

The suspension of any individual by a member of the board will remain in effect until the suspension is reviewed and the appropriate penalty is determined.  The available members of the board may postpone the suspension subject to review.

An Individual ejected from a game by any board member will be suspended from all league and tournament play until the ejection is reviewed and the appropriate penalty is determined.  The available members of the board may postpone the suspension subject to review.

The board will determine the penalty within a reasonable time limit but no later than the next regularly scheduled Board Meeting.  The severity of an infraction will determine the penalty.  Past violations will be considered when determining the appropriate penalty.

Penalties may include but are not limited to:

• Warning
• Ejection of the individual from the game
• Suspension of the individual or the team for one or more games
• Suspension of the individual or the team for the remainder of the season

Any individual may appeal his/her penalty or the finding of the members of the board to the entire league board at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.
