White Center Food Bank Grocery Delivery Instructions (1.5 minute read)

1. Delivering to Houses or Apartments with External Doors:

  1. Place the grocery bags on the ground in front of the front door.
  2. Knock and call out “grocery delivery”.
  3. Step back to a safe distance (around 10 feet).
  4. If no one answers, make a quick phone call. Inform them that you're with the Food Bank and are delivering their weekly groceries.

2. Delivering to Apartment Buildings:

  1. Upon arriving, call the recipient using the phone number provided in the route email.
  2. Identify yourself and mention you're from the White Center Food Bank with their weekly groceries.
  3. Ask if they can collect their groceries at the entrance or if they'd like you to place them in front of their apartment door.
  4. If someone lets you into the building:
  1. Place the bags in front of the recipient's door.
  2. Knock and call out “grocery delivery”.

3. If Unable to Reach the Recipient at an Apartment Building:

  1. If you can't contact the person or gain entry to the building, leave the grocery bags as close as possible to the main apartment entrance.
  2. Note: All recipients have been informed by the food bank to expect their deliveries between late morning and early afternoon on Saturday.

4. Delivering to Houses:

  1. Check for any specific delivery instructions and follow them.
  2. If there are no instructions:
  1. Place the grocery bags in front of the door, ensuring there's enough room for the door to open.
  2. Knock or ring the doorbell and call out “Grocery delivery!”.
  3. Wait for a short while; many recipients are seniors who might need assistance with their groceries.

5. Reporting Delivery Issues:

If you face any challenges, such as not being able to enter an apartment building or if no one answers the door promptly, please send an email detailing the issue to heather@whitecenterfoodbank.org.
