Library Poetry Contest

In addition to National School Library Month, April is also National Poetry Month! So, I challenge all our Patriots in April to write a poem expressing what you enjoy most about our Library or how our Library has helped you. It can be about the books you've read and enjoyed, how one of us has helped you on a project or interest of study, or maybe how much you enjoy socializing with friends, working on puzzles, or just relaxing. Write a poem and let us know! Submit your poetry to the Library Circulation Desk by April 29, 2022, and one student will be randomly selected to receive a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble (good at the BN Cafe too!).

April is Alcohol Awareness Month!

Did you know that alcohol use is the 3rd leading cause of preventable death in the United States? Learn the stats! Teen alcohol use kills 4,300 people each year. In 2019, 24% of young drivers 15 to 20 years old who were killed in crashes had BACs of .01 g/dL or higher (NHTSA, 2022).

What can you do to help people become more aware?

Follow the SADD Club Google Classroom Page: msjxhng or johnjaysadd on Instagram. Volunteer your time to get involved in substance use prevention activities for the school with SADD Club; or just help to promote activities/events you might see posted on announcements.

For the month of April, SADD Club students are asking you to think about changing your icon picture to help promote awareness that April is Alcohol Awareness Month! Instructions & 2 images attached work best!

COVID guidance. For a full list of new protocols, click here.

Background information from the Dutchess County Department of Behavioral & Community Health (DBCH):  With the announcement of the decision by New York State to move away from formal contact identification and tracing, and towards individual responsibility for isolating and quarantining, the State issued additional guidance related specifically to schools. This change reflects the current diminished value of contact tracing due to the high prevalence of disease; when omicron is so prevalent in the community, the assumption is there is widespread exposure via multiple channels. As a result, the shift in strategy requires

*those who know they are positive to isolate themselves

*symptomatic individuals self-isolate and obtain timely testing to determine if      they have been infected with COVID-19

*if they test positive, informing their known close contacts, and

*for those who learn they are contacts, self-quarantining as appropriate.
