Junior Oil Barons Coach Selection Directive

The purpose of the Coach Selection Directive is to provide fair, transparent, and consistent selection of coaches. This will be accomplished from a set of coach candidates to identify coaches that best exemplify the goals of the association.

The Coach Selection Committee is responsible for making all final coach selections. This is done in conjunction with the Technical Advisory Panel and appropriate executive board members who participate as part of the coach selection committee.

The FMMHA coach selection committee consists a minimum of three of the following members:

1.0 Application process

Candidates interested in applying one or multiple coaching positions in the following season must meet the following criteria:

Applications that meet the above criteria must complete the following to begin the application process;

VP Admin will be responsible for exporting Applications and working with Hockey Operations manager to screen for qualifications, will attach a summary of Parent feedback survey and Summary of organizational feedback ( Technical Advisor, Division Director & VP Elite feedback)

The technical assignment will be sent to the current Technical Advisors (without the applying coaches name attached) for technical evaluation. The Technical Advisor will send it back to the Selection Committee with notes and/or suggestions.

2.0 Interview process

VP Elite will recruit a Technical Advisory Panel that meets the following criteria. VP Elite will ensure that the panel consists of well rounded individuals

The VP Admin will share the application packages of each candidate that meets the selection criteria to the Technical Advisory Panel. This Advisory Panel works together to make a recommendation on which candidates should move forward in the process to interview.    Any candidates not selected to move forward will be notified by the VP Admin.  

Candidates whom are selected will be scheduled an interview with the panel:

2.1 Technical Interview

At the end of the interviews the Technical Advisory Panel will rank and make recommendations to the selection committee on which coaches should move forward in the process and at which level.

Any candidate not selected to move forward will be notified by the VP Elite with direct feedback on why.

2.2 Selection Committee Interview

 

At the end of these interviews the Selection Committee makes final assignments and VP Elite will make final phone calls.  

   
3.0 Coach Selection & Announcement

3.1  Selection of Assistant Coaches

Typically head coaches will select their coaching staff with the approval of their JOB Director. However, the Coach Selection Committee reserves the right to recommend and/or refuse an individual’s inclusion on team sheets based on previous coaching, evaluations, or transgressions related to fair play or behavior issues. Non parent assistant coaches can be announced any time after approval from the JOB Director. If a Head Coach does not have any non parent assistant coaches he must wait until the team is fully picked before asking any parents to be an assistant. Before asking the parent the Head Coach must inform and obtain approval from the JOB Director.

4.0 Appeals

There shall be no appeals of the decision of the Coach Selection committee.

5.0 Resignation

If a coach resigns prior to the season start tryouts will continue and the team will be picked by Evaluators assigned by the JOB Director. After the team is picked the Coach Selection Committee may re-interview or offer the role to another candidate that has applied for a Head Coach position in the current season. If there are no available candidates the Coach Selection Committee may repost the exposition or ask another coach to take the role.
