- As a general rule of thumb, we try to play games during adverse weather as long as the fields are playable.
- If we experience bad weather, we will conduct field inspections early on Saturday morning. If we need to close the fields and cancel games, we will send out a program-wide email as early as possible.
- Please be patient as we have to inspect each field before sending out the email.
- We suggest checking your email before leaving for the field to ensure your game is still on.
- Earrings, necklaces, watches, bracelets, etc. need to be removed before participating in a game or practice. Taping or covering with bandaids is not allowed.
- WHYS is a volunteer-run organization and we rely on parent-volunteers to help coach the weekly clinics. This would involve helping to replicate the drills demonstrated by the RSA coaches.
- The more volunteers we have, the easier it is to keep the kids engaged, the more fun the kids will have, and the need for tranquilizer darts to keep the kids in line will be greatly reduced!!!!
- Please consider volunteering as a coach for the upcoming season.
- You do not have to have previous soccer experience. At this age group, the focus is on the kids having fun and getting lots of touches of the ball. The time commitment would be the weekly Saturday morning clinic and that’s it! No practices, no emailing parents, etc.
Town Rec - General Info
TOWN-REC - MIDWEEK MINI-KICKERS
- Please review the attached rosters for your child’s team placement, which includes info on coaches, field info, etc.
- The season will start the week of Sep 8th and run through the week of Oct 27th, for a total of 8 weeks
- Your child has been placed on a team that will meet at one of the following days/times:
- Tuesdays @ 10.00am at Robinson Field
- Tuesdays @ 10.45am at Robinson Field
- Wednesdays @ 10.00am at Robinson Field
- There are no midweek practices for the Midweek Mini-Kickers group.
- Clinics will be held at Robinson Field (26 Robinson St, Hanson, MA).
- Please refer to the emailed rosters for info on the day and time of your child’s session.
- Players should bring a soccer ball (size 3 is preferable) and water to each session. Shin guards and cleats are preferred but are not mandatory.
- As with prior seasons, WHYS will run a Free Cleat Exchange program as the season approaches. You do not need to drop off a pair to pick up a pair.
- Session Set-Up / Coaching Focus
- The sessions will run for 45-minutes and will be led by Resendes Soccer Academy. At this age group, the aim is to get the kids familiar with the idea of soccer while having fun. It is fairly common for a few of the kids to be pretty shy and have limited participation in the first few weeks of the clinics. However, we tend to see the shy kids participate a little more as the season progresses as they get more familiar/confident with the set-up.
- Shirts will be distributed at the field on the morning of the first session of the season.
- Team Communications / Contact Info
- There will be no emails from rostered coaches to player families
- Any questions, concerns, etc. that arise during the season should be directed to the Director of Coaching & Instruction at doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org.
TOWN REC - SATURDAY INSTRUCTIONAL
- Please review the attached rosters for your child’s team placement, which includes info on coaches, field info, etc.
- The season will start on Sat Aug 30th and run through Sat Oct 25th, with no clinics on Sat Oct 11th (Columbus Day Weekend).
- Although there may be some exceptions, as a general rule of thumb:
- Sat @ 9am - Pre-K Boys & Girls
- Sat @ 10am - Kindergarten Boys & Girls
- There are no midweek practices for the Saturday Instructional group.
- Saturday Instructional sessions will be held on Saturday mornings at Conley Elementary School (100 Forest St, Whitman).
- Fields will be signposted with a different superhero or princess. Please refer to the attached rosters for info on the appropriate field for your child’s team. This will be the field they will practice on each week during their weekly clinic session.
- The weekly clinic sessions will run for 50 minutes and will be led by coaches from Resendes Soccer Academy (RSA), with assistance from parent coach volunteers.
- IMPORTANT - only parents who have completed the coach registration process can be on the field coaching.
- We are always looking for more volunteers to help with coaching. You do not need to have any prior soccer or coaching experience. The RSA coaches will lead the session, and parent coaches will help the kids implement the drills demonstrated by the RSA coaches. The more parent coaches we have, the better the sessions will be. We would like to have at least two parent coaches for each team.
- If you would like to assist, please reach out to Colin Burns (Director of Coaching & Instruction) @ doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org
- At this age group, we encourage players to get lots of ball touches in order to develop their technical ability. We try to promote the use of ’small touches’ so players get comfortable dribbling the ball, changing direction, etc. We try to discourage big kicks where there is little to no thought of where the ball is going.
- Shirts will be distributed at the field on the morning of the first session of the season.
- Team Communications / Contact Info
- There will be no emails from rostered coaches to player families
- At this age group, we do not ask our parent coach volunteers to get involved in any parent communications.
- Any questions, concerns, etc. that arise during the season should be directed to Colin Burns (Director of Coaching & Instruction) @ doci@whitmanhansonyouthsoccer.org.
