Chief Science Officer (CSO) Program
The CSO Spring Cabinet Meeting will be held at Trident Maritime Systems in Ontonagon on March 12, 2025 @ 10a-1p. Student CSOs are currently registering for this event. CSO Advisors and other staff and administration are welcome to attend to learn more about the newly launched CSO program, please register using the link below. Pi-Day at Gogebic Community College

The December GOISD Math Challenge targeted 6th graders! Students had the opportunity to perform at an At-Home activity to practice their math skills. Check out the instructions here for calculating Santa’s Sleigh Speed.
Ontonagon 6th graders have earned a PIZZA PARTY for their success with the December GOISD Math Challenge! The party will be held on Tuesday, February 18.

Great Lakes Watershed Field Course (GLWFC) Teacher Professional Development Opportunity

In addition, our GLWFC webpage is updated and you can find that linked here. You can also find a direct link to the online application linked here.
Their goal is to have 10 of our teachers for this cohort come from the Upper Peninsula. There is a spot in the application for the teachers to indicate if they received the application through the EUPISD, Eastern UP MiSTEM Network, or Western UP MiSTEM. We will prioritize teachers who indicate that they received the application through one of our recruiting partners.

February/March GOISD Math Challenge
The February/March GOISD Math Challenge is Pi themed. These challenges are meant to be done at home, outside of the classroom. Instructions can be found here, and student work should be collected by March 7, 2025 for scoring by the GOISD MS/HS Math PLN at their next meeting.

GOISD MS/HS Math Professional Learning Network (PLN)
The next meeting is scheduled for March 10, 2025 at 9a ET in Bergland. Sub-costs will be reimbursed. The focus of this meeting is for power standards identification, followed by vertical alignment of standards. If your district has new hires or interest in participating, contact Emily Geiger.

The workshop is a nine-day professional learning series in Summer 2024, spanning five consecutive days in the summer and four days virtually during the school year. It supports new-to-CS and veteran CS teachers with the tools to implement MS & HS courses.

Meaningful Math & Computer Science Integration for High School & Middle School
These five day workshop series will equip educators with the ability to implement module based math lessons that capitalize on the modern digital tools that computer science offers to support effective and efficient teaching and learning. INVENTCON @ Superior Maker Fest 2025!
The Regional Invention Convention Michigan Competition, InventCon @ Superior MakerFest 2025, will be held on March 15, 2025 at the Houghton High School Library! Grade 3-6 students have identified problems to solve through innovation. Projects are completed individually or in groups of 2 or 3 students.

Storylines and Semiconductors (MEDC PK-8 Semiconductor Grant)
Funds to create a program to introduce WUP 4th and 6th graders to semiconductors to support the anticipated growth of the industry will be awarded.
