Pi Chapter General Meeting
October 15, 2020
Via Zoom @ 7:00 P.M.
Call to Order: President Kelly called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m.
- There were 24 members present.
- Members were divided into small groups.
- The goal was to share something that was important or interesting to each person in the group.
- Pi Chapter’s officers were introduced:
- President - Catherine Kelly
- First Vice President - Amy Fratz
- Second Vice President - Mary Ellen Malloy
- Recording Secretary - Beverly Siti
- Corresponding Secretary - Barbara Priggemeier
- The Brag Bag was opened via the chat box. President Kelly encouraged members to add their accomplishments.
- Lori Bathurst spoke about the online learning programs at Rowan College at Gloucester County and the National Constitution Center, some of which her children and students had taken advantage of recently.
- Connie Erikson has completed 25 years of teaching.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes of the February 9, 2020 Tea/General Meeting were approved (Behm/Rucker) as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Diane Camiolo reported balances of $2,624.27 in our checking account and $1,748.30 in our Stipend account. The report was filed for audit.
Words of Wisdom: Rosie Rucker spoke about recent nasty messages in the world and the power of prayer.
President’s Report:
- President Kelly updated the membership on our annual goals:
- While DKGNJ suggests seeking 5 new members, our goal is to have 1 - 3 new members join Pi Chapter this year.
- Personal and professional growth: The State Leadership Conference, held virtually on October 17th, was well attended by Pi Sisters.
- Service to others:
- “For the Love of Books” - Bev Siti continues to collect new/gently used children’s books and is willing to pick up any you may have ready to donate.
- Kidz Packs - Jackie Gould continues our work with the Kitchen of Hope as they provide weekend backpacks of food for children in Glassboro.
- This year, in lieu of food items, we will send a check in support of this project. Donations may be sent to Diane Camiolo, designated for Kidz Packs, and one check will be sent in Pi’s name.
- Together Project – We will also donate via check for the purchase of pajamas for the youth shelter. Members will be notified when checks may be sent.
Breast Cancer Walk - This year, donations can be made to Making Strides in Breast Cancer or the American Cancer Society.
Committee Reports:
- Stipends: Lori Bathurst reported that the new schedule applied this past year seemed to work out better for everyone.
- The 2020 recipients were:
Deidre Reilly – 7th-8th ELA Teacher - Logan Middle School, Logan Twp.
Chelsea Shanks – Special Ed – Grade 1 – Whitman Elementary,
Washington Twp.
- Lori also spoke about free documentaries from the National Constitution Center. She will speak on this at a future meeting.
- Book Club: Beverly Siti reported that Pi’s book group will discuss Code Name: Lise, The True Story of the Woman Who Became WWII’s Most Highly Decorated Spy by Larry Loftis via Zoom on November 18, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
President Kelly mentioned the possibility of a future focus meeting to educate members on Zoom procedures, given by those members who know their way around the program.
