Is Genesis History?

By Steve Hamm

This week we viewed a couple of videos talking about how complex and intricately God created the animal kingdom.  In Genesis 1:21-22 it says, “ 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”  This happened on the fifth day of creation.   On the very next day, God created animals that move along the ground each according to their kind.  Genesis 1:24-25 says, “24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”  In both these verses, God created the sea creatures, the birds of the air, and the animals that moved on land, all according to their kind.  Take note that in verse 22, God commanded the sea creatures and the birds to increase and fill both the seas and the earth. We can safely assume that He commanded the animals that moved along the ground to do the same.  With that said, let’s discuss how all of these kinds of animals diversified into many species of the same kind.  God created the genome system in each kind of creature to adapt to it’s environment, which created changes in each kind in order to survive in its environment.  A very simple example of this is the bird that Charles Darwin used to try and prove his theory of evolution (note that evolution is just that, a theory!!), which is the Finch in the  Galapagos Islands.  Darwin noticed there were many varieties of the Finch and that the beaks were bigger on some than on others.  He only spent 5 months on the islands, but his theory was that each species of finch was due to the scientific believe of “Survival of the fittest.”  This is partially true in the fact that the complex genome system of the finch, over time, transformed or mutated the beaks to be bigger in different environments. Seeds become hard in dry areas and the finches that lived in those areas need a bigger stronger beak to open and eat the seeds.  The complex and intricate genome also transformed the finch to have many different colors, due to the fact that they are prey to larger birds.  Colors can many times help hide and many different animals that are in the prey category from predators who would otherwise easily discover them.  This transformation we have been discussing, is called “Adaptation.” This adaptation, through the genome system, helps all animals adapt to their different environments and change some of their features in order to survive.  When God created all the animals, whether sea or land, He commanded them to fill the earth and He created within each one this beautiful, complex, and intricate genome system that helps each to adapt.  Science has absolutely no evidence that these small changes, which are due to their environment, in any way mutate one kind of creature into another kind. We need to be studying and sharing this information to everyone we know, especially our children, so everyone will know that science actually proves creation.  “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth!!”  And the church says, “AMEN!!”
