Eligibility:
- All players in King of The North must be a current UK university student with a current verifiable university address.
- All players must be available to travel to Manchester to play in the grand final at the live event on 1st/2nd December 2018. (See The Live Event)
- All players’ accounts must be in good standing, with no outstanding bans.
- There is no legitimate reason to switch accounts during the course of the tournament - such requests will be rejected.
- All players must be eligible to play in NUEL/NSE events.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct and Cheating:
- Players are expected to act in a sportsmanlike manner throughout the tournament.
- Cheating, hacking, bug exploitation and scripting are not allowed under any circumstances.
- Do not make public accusations of cheating - make these privately to an admin
- Any players found engaging in any of the above will be subject to punishment and possibly disqualification. (See Punishments and Disqualification in the rules for specific games)
- Likewise, any players who witness any infractions of the rules are expected to report them to tournament admins with suitable evidence. (Video, Screenshots etc)
Discord:
- The captain for each team must be present at the respective captains meeting
- Do not “Suppress @everyone and @here” - we will potentially need to quickly get everyone’s attention during the qualifier
The Live Event
- King of The North is a live event hosted at MediaCityUK on the 1st and 2nd December 2018, by reaching the finals of a qualifier tournament, you are invited to compete in the live event hosted on one of the days.
- Players participating in the event must show their Student ID (or similar document) for verification.
- King of the North is a live event hosted at MediaCityUK, Salford, on the 1st and 2nd December 2018:
- By reaching the finals of the Overwatch qualifiers, you are invited to compete in the live event hosted on Sunday the 2nd December 2018.
- By winning the finals of the League of Legends qualifiers, you are invited to compete in the live event hosted on Saturday the 1st December 2018
- A minimum of five of the players on the roster that qualified for League of Legends or six of the players on the the roster that qualified for Overwatch must attend the live event. Failure to do so will result in a one year ban for all members on that roster and disqualification from the tournament.
- Teams are expected to fund their own travel, speak to your society to try and seek funding for travel from your Student’s Union.
- All games will be played on an accelerated schedule (Once the previous match has finished then the setup of the next match will begin immediately)
- Teams are expected to turn up at least an hour before the scheduled start of their game.
- Computers are provided for by MediaCityUK and 144Hz monitors are provided for by the NUEL. Players are expected to bring their own peripherals (bringing spare equipment is highly recommended):
- Mouse
- Mousepad
- In-ear headphones
- Headset (for use as a microphone)
- Keyboard
- Any other custom peripherals you use.
- The games will be played on stage therefore players must use in-ear headphones with noise-cancelling ear defenders on top (provided by UoM Esports) at all day.
- They must be fitted correctly without obstruction from any other headwear.
- Players must make no attempt to remove them during the game; confirm with the match admin if you need to take them off or adjust them.
- Players must not attempt to circumvent the ear defenders via each other’s microphones.
- Any unsportsmanlike conduct between teams/players (including outside of the game) will not be tolerated and will be investigated by the admins and an appropriate punishment will be given.
- Coaches will only be allowed to talk to their team during tactical pauses and during map breaks. Ask an admin on the day for more details.
- Players and coaches must take measures to ensure fair play, phones, smart watches and any other communication devices must be turned off and left with an admin.
- Only the players and coaches will be allowed in the voice communication channel
- The teams will used locked channels in the UoM Esports Discord, in the event of an outage in the Discord servers the teams will use a teamspeak server provided to them.
Prizing:
- See the game specific tournament rules for details on the prizes for each tournament.
Playing A Match:
- Matches must be started with a full team on both sides.
- If a team cannot field a full team 10 minutes after the scheduled start time, then they forfeit a map. This continues every 10 minutes until a team has forfeited enough maps to lose the series.
- In the absence of a scheduled match time, either team can choose to start the timer by contacting an admin.
- Any no shows must be reported to an admin with an accompanying screenshot.
- If both teams cannot field a full team, both will be disqualified after 10 minutes.
- Refer to specific tournament rules for settings and pause rules.
Streaming and Spectators:
- King of The North will be streaming select matches throughout the qualifiers. Teams involved will be notified and casters involved must be allowed to spectate the game.
- Games may be delayed by casters on behalf of the admins for the benefit of the stream.
- Broadcasting of your team’s matches is allowed:
- The admin team will not take responsibility for “stream sniping” against any teams, if a team chooses to broadcast their games they should take appropriate measures to avoid “stream sniping”.
- Any delay caused by stream issues that last more than ten minutes before the start of the game will be treated like a late starting match and will have matching punishments.
Rules are subject to change at any time. Admin’s decision is final.
NUEL Live Rules:
Coaching Rules
Any form of communication between a team’s coach and the players will only be allowed during the following opportunities:
- Tactical timeouts
- Half times of a map
- Between maps of a multimap series
Additional Anti-Cheating Measures
Players are not allowed to be in any form of communication with anyone outside of the games. As such, players should take the following measures to ensure that this is the case:
- Turn off any phones, smart watches or any other communication device on them and leave them with the match admin.
- Appear ‘Offline’ on Steam.
- Ensure that no one other than the members of the team are present in the voice communication channel.
- Do not attempt to communicate with the spectators in the arena.
Technical pauses must be called and then confirmed to be legitimate by the match admin present with the team. Technical pauses are therefore not limited by any length of time; providing the fault can verified.
Noise cancelling ear defenders must be worn at all times during the match, additionally:
- They must be fitted correctly without obstruction from any other headwear.
- Players must make no attempt to remove them during the game; confirm with the match admin if you need to take them off or adjust them.
- Players must not attempt to circumvent the ear defenders via each other’s microphones.
