I want to extend a warm welcome as you view our website. The community refers to Hickory High as the flagship school of Hickory Public Schools, and I hope that you will see the beauty in our diverse student body and staff. In fact, Hickory High School’s enrollment is approximately 1100 students this year, and we operate on a block schedule. Hickory High enjoys a heralded history of championship titles in athletics, academics, and the arts, and we continue to strive for excellence in all that we do.

Here at Hickory High, we celebrate every student! Moreover, we offer challenging and rigorous classes that are guaranteed to meet all students wherever they are in their academic studies as we believe in providing students with options for more rigorous coursework. For example, students can enjoy Advanced-Placement courses that are offered across the disciplines, and our International Baccalaureate Diploma Program has been in place since 2008. Dual enrollment partnerships are available to provide students opportunities to earn college credits through Lenoir Rhyne University and/or Catawba Valley Community College. The academic possibilities are forthcoming because students are also able to take classes at our magnet school, Hickory Career and Arts Magnet High School (HCAM), which is a quick shuttle-bus ride to the nearby campus. Some students opt to leave campus during part of the school day for a semester internship experience at a local business or agency, and several students are selected for the very successful Catawba Apprenticeship Program. For more information about all of the courses that are offered, please see our registration handbook, and take a look at our academics drop down menu. In addition, our school profile will provide a glimpse of our demographics and performance measures.

Student life is an important part of the developing teen; therefore, Hickory High offers students the chance to participate in one or more of its numerous clubs, including national honors clubs and athletic team sports in an effort to help students grow outside of the classroom. Also, through our counseling department, special programs are in place for select students to aid with their socio-emotional needs and to help teens make good decisions. Further, students have the opportunity to get extended help from their teachers during Smart Lunch, which is designed to give students a lunch break and a tutorial session each day as well as time for clubs to meet during the school day.

Thank you for visiting our website. We welcome a personal visit from you to see if Hickory High School can serve and celebrate you, family members, or friends.
