STUDENT

INSPIRATION

Scarlett Boyte (5) uses her art to inspire others to speak out.

Story by Halie Burnside

One day while listening  to Ms. Lara Goleman, Scarlett Bayte heard Ms. Goleman talking about the bully box. Ms. Goleman said that students could write a note about being bullied and drop it in the bully box. This gave Scarlett inspiration. Scarlett decided to use her drawing skills to help others have courage. Scarlett stated, “I want people to be inspired to speak out and say what they know is right.”

One thing Scarlett wants people to understand about her artwork is that the mouth is speaking love and kind- ness. Scarlett also wanted to thank her friends, Kaydee Cook, Cade Diel, and Maddy Lott, for helping her get her piece a teacher to spread her message to BCS students.

Kaitlyn Wyatt (11) works hard as yearbook editor.

All through the year, the yearbook staff works hard to capture all the best moments of the year. One yearbook staffer that works the hardest is Kaitlyn Wyatt. As yearbook editor, she picks the fonts, theme, proofreads, and corrects any mistakes. Kaitlyn stated “Making the yearbook is a lot harder than just copy and pasting photos on a page.” When asked how to describe yearbook to others who want to join, she said “Yearbook is the best. However you have to actually work. There is no way to slack off and pass the class.”

Mrs. Nikki Johnson 2nd grade class is “working on addition, place value, and using counters.” How do you think working in groups helps? “They can explain to each other as peers.”

In Coach Higginbotham’s  fifth hour class, they were building their own empires. They were hard at work building their government as well as picking the type from dictatorship to democracy.

Coach Joey Lee says his favorite thing about P.E. is  “Promoting health and an opportunity to teach kids on how to be active. I expect them to listen and follow rules of the class. ”

Archaeologist opens tomb of King Tut

2/16/1923

In November 1922, archaeologists found an ancient sealed doorway bearing the name Tutankhamen or more commonly known as King Tut. When they entered the tomb’s interior chambers on November 26, they were thrilled to find it virtually intact, with its treasures untouched after more than 3,000 years. On February 16, Howard Carter opened the door to the last chamber and inside was King Tut.

FAFSA WORKSHOP

WHAT IS FAFSA?

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE FAFSA?

The FAFSA is the application students fill out in order to determine their financial aid eligibility.

Completing the FAFSA is a requirement for graduation in the state of Louisiana.  For seniors that have not completed the FAFSA, there will be a workshop for Seniors and their parents to work through this process.  Trained financial aid specialists will be on site to assist with the filing and completing the FAFSA.  Parents need to bring their 2017 Tax Information.

UNLOCK MY

FUTURE.ORG

All students in grades 6th-12th need to explore www.unlockmyfuture.org to get a better idea of what their future holds!

Here you can find potential dream jobs based on the things you already love to do, figure out which schools are best for you, find ways to help pay for college and more.

TAKE MY ADVICE

Have you got questions you would like the newsletter staff to answer? Submit a question via google classroom (grades 6-12 only).  All questions are anonymous.

Q: What pizza place should I order from?

A: Johnny’s

Q: What advice would you give as to how I can "fit in" and still remain true to myself?

A: Be yourself and be open-minded.  Try to be nice to others. Find people who like the same things that you do and don’t conform to what everyone else likes.

Q: What should you do if someone is messing with another peer in a wrong way?

A: Depending on the situation, you could mind your own business or confront them.  If you say something, that’s good because everyone needs to one that  there is someone who will stand up for them.

Q: How hard is it to come up with questions to ask the people you interview?

A: It’s not hard. It is hard to find them sometimes.

Q: If we put a bullying letter in the box will they be read out loud to anyone?

A:  The psychology teacher, Mrs. Judy Johnson, will read all the letters. Her class will then evaluate the letters to determine the types of bullying that occur at BCS.
