Hillel Branding and Style Guide
Hi there! Welcome to the Brandeis Hillel branding and style guide! In this document you will find everything you need to correctly use the Hillel brand and styles in your advertisements, publications, and all other content.
A clear and consistent style and brand helps members of the greater Brandeis community and the public understand what Hillel is, what it does, what it supports, and how philanthropy may be used to enrich Jewish life on campus.
We ask that our student groups and other partners work with Hillel to use and maintain this brand image. We thank you in advance.

Fonts and Typography
- Student groups are not required to use specific fonts, but we encourage the use of fonts that are legible and clear.
- Some recommended fonts include but are not limited to: Merriweather Sans (this document), Merriweather (Brandeis official font), Arial, Arial Black, Now Bold, Helvetica, Aktiv Grotesk (Hillel website).
- Make sure your font is easily legible in all sizes and colors.
- Fonts can be downloaded for free at fonts.google.com
Requirements for student groups
- Student groups use the “Powered by” logo on all publications and event advertisements. The logo must be legible and formatted the same size as the logo of the student group. Modifications to the “Powered by” logo are not permitted.
- FAQs–
- Why? - The “Powered by” logo is on all publications and communications so that donors, parents, and students can identify the student group as being affiliated with and supported by Hillel. This fosters a greater sense of community among our many groups and it educates people off campus and ensures donors understand the impact of their philanthropic donations. This also makes it clear to the broader Brandeis community that something is a Jewish event or a Jewish group.
- What if my event did not receive money from the Hillel student board? - You must still include the “Powered by” logo on your advertising materials. This brands the event as contributing to general Jewish life on campus, and associates your group with the broader Jewish community.
- Which version of the “Powered by” logo should be used? - The one that looks the best on your poster of course! The white version is better for darker background colors and the color version is best for lighter background colors.
- What about social media posts? Do we have to include the “Powered by” logo in all of our social media posts? No. You only have to use the logo if your post is advertising an event or program. Other posts, such as photos, do not require the “Powered by” logo.
- Student groups should verbally acknowledge Brandeis Hillel at Shabbat services and events if verbal announcements are being made. (Exception: Weekday services)
- FAQs–
- What does that look like? - For example, at Shabbat services whoever is giving announcements would say: “Thank you to Brandeis Hillel for helping us make our event possible.”
- Why? - Acknowledgement of Brandeis Hillel strengthens the idea of a larger Jewish community and is generally a nice thing to do.
Requirements for other sponsored or co-sponsored events and publications (non-student groups)
- Other sponsored or co-sponsored events and publications must use the main Brandeis Hillel logo, in white or in color in all advertising materials and publications surrounding the event. The logo must be legible and formatted the same size as the logo of the organization/event. Modifications to the main logo are not permitted.
- A verbal recognition of Brandeis Hillel is also made at the event, regardless if other announcements are being made.
- FAQs–
- What does that look like? - For example, at your event, someone running the event would say: “I’d like to take a minute to thank Brandeis Hillel for helping us make our event possible.”
- We also encourage you to recognize student leaders, co-sponsors, and anyone else who helped make an event possible (e.g., facilities, CES, dining, public safety).
