NIRSA HBCU Committee Charges

Last Updated: February 2020

Description

The HBCU Committee was established in 2018 after transitioning from a three-year task force, in order to focus in a more long-term way on the unique needs of recreation departments at historically black colleges and universities, and to continue the legacy of HBCUs as a central part of NIRSA’s history.

NIRSA’s mission, vision, and strategic values guide the “how” and “why” for our professional development offerings, networking opportunities, and resources, as well as all strategic priorities.  NIRSA committees are expected to fulfill their charges, operate the committee, and make decisions and recommendations consistent with NIRSA’s values and in support of NIRSA’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

2020-2021 Charges

  1. Plan, organize and implement an HBCU Summit to be held as a pre-conference workshop at the 2021 NIRSA Annual Conference and/or the 2021 ERSL Conference. Work in consultation with the respective ERSL and Conference program committees to include the pre-conference in the program planning and marketing materials.
  2. Recruit 10 HBCUs to fill out the Institutional Data Set during the 2020-2021 committee year.
  3. Work with the NIRSA Board, NIRSA HQ staff and ERSL Committee to promote NIRSA’s history, as well as HBCUs’ role in that history, as requested.
  4. Publish a newsletter to keep HBCU members and non-members informed on NIRSA happenings.

Additional charges may be presented to the committee, or by the committee, during the year as new initiatives arise.
