At the Crossroads

Doug Fletcher

Your shop on the High Street aims to meet the needs of the community in a number of different ways. On offer for those who enjoy some light refreshment in a relaxed atmosphere in the company of friendly people, is a choice of hot toast, scones, cakes or biscuits, along with tea, coffee, or cold drinks. Everybody who drops in can be assured of a warm welcome and many of our customers enjoy doing this on a very regular basis. The prices are very reasonable and table service is provided by a team of volunteers from local churches. Whether you want to participate in a friendly discussion, or just sit quietly, this oasis on the High Street is the ideal place to be. There is a ‘Listening Ear’ service for those who would appreciate the opportunity to share a concern or just want someone to listen to them.

Do look out for the words around the walls, they express our purpose and the reason why volunteers willingly give up their time to serve at Church Shop.

Also on offer is an excellent range of greetings cards for all occasions, as well as Bibles and books for all ages, and Bible reading notes. The limited space restricts what we can put on display, but we offer an excellent ordering service and are usually able to supply books within a few days. By supporting your shop in this way, you are helping to keep your High Street alive and thriving. If you are unsure which book or Bible might be the right choice for, friendly and personal advice is available on request.

The shop is part of St John’s and is managed by volunteers reporting to the PCC. It is regularly used by homegroups, planning meetings and youth groups and games afternoons. Anyone wanting to use it for a church related activity is invited to speak to the manager to discuss.
