Section 2: Credit Proposal

2.1 Motivation

~½ page

Content to consider:

List how many members on the team (full name with corresponding uniqname) are seeking credit with the number of credit hours each person desires (this could be a range if uncertain), and specify any members who are applying for the MDP Leadership track. If the team lead is not part of the group receiving credit, include a brief statement of support from him/her.

Why are you seeking credit for your work? Why should this work receive credit (i.e. how does it relate to engineering and socially engaged design?) What do you hope to accomplish by the end of the semester for which you receive credit i.e. what is the desired outcome (overall) of this work? How will this work help those of you seeking credit as well as the overall team?

2.1 Objectives

~ ½ page

Content to consider:

What are the objectives you hope to achieve through the curriculization of your work?

2.2 Justification

~ ½-1 page

Content to consider:

Why does this work need to be done? Why can’t an existing solution address the problem? What prior work has already been done (locally, nationally,  internationally) to address the problem (even if partially or unsuccessfully)? What challenges make achieving a potentially ‘perfect’ solution from working (ex: resource limitations, manufacturing feasibility, implementation barriers, etc…)?

2.3 Proposed Work Packages

~ ½-1 page

Content to consider:

Who on the team applying for course credit is going to do what? By when will the tasks be achieved? Use the following link to help you start thinking about what work packages for each member will look like - this should be a rough list for you to discuss with C-SED that we will finalize together:

Note: In your work package you will be considering the deliverables and timeline, so if it makes sense for your organization, you can merge everything in Section 2.3 together. Just be sure to incorporate all the key points.

2.3.1 Proposed Deliverables

~ ½ page

Content to consider:

Be very specific about what you want to accomplish during the semester. Specific contributions to the project are more important than time allocation estimates.

What would you like to achieve by the end of the semester? What deliverables do you think would help you get there? What deliverables make sense for your team to submit / receive direct feedback on from C-SED/faculty advisor, based on your objectives and desired outcome in receiving credit? What means/methods do you think you make take in order to be successful to achieving your objectives and deliverables? Think of methods you may have previously implemented. How will you document your work throughout the semester? How will you demonstrate what you have achieved by the end of the semester (ex: design reviews, portfolio, Design Expo, etc…)?

Note: The deliverables will be tailored for each team, based on discussions with C-SED and the faculty advisor. The C-SED Graduate Student Facilitator will be responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on deliverables throughout the semester.

2.3.2 Proposed Schedule

~ ½ page

Content to consider:

Think of the 4 months of the semester - what would you like to achieve by the end of each individual months? By the end of the semester? Do different individuals on the team have different tasks that need to be accomplished for overall team success? What resources do you need to accomplish your goals (ex: access to the prototyping lab, obtaining materials, preparation in [x] topic before studying [y] topic, etc...?)  Try to be as detailed as you can, but we can be figure this out together. You may present your timeline in any format that makes sense (ex: list, Gantt chart, etc…). Try to incorporate both required and tentative C-SED training and deliverables, as well. You may include a timeline that incorporates the entirety of your team’s objectives, but be sure to highlight the specific tasks that pertain to course credit with C-SED.
