Regular Board Meeting

February 12, 2024

The Board of Education of Chadron Public Schools was convened in Regular Session on February 12, 2024 by President Huffman at 5:30 PM.

Board members present:  Boone Huffman, Tom Menke, Sandy Montague-Roes, Madison Nitsch and Tye Pourier

Board members absent:  Melissa Webster

Routine Matters

President Huffman welcomed visitors to the meeting.  President Huffman announced the posting of a complete copy of the Open Meetings Act on the west wall of the conference room by the door.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  A quorum was determined to be present.

                        

Motion by Ms. Montague-Roes, seconded by Mrs. Nitsch, to declare the meeting properly publicized and open to the public.  Roll Call:

High Fives

Thank you to Rick Barry, Biz Vogl and all those who worked the Chadron Dual Wrestling and Individual Tournament last month.  Girls wrestling state qualifiers - Fia Rassmussen and Josie Werner.  Boys wrestling state qualifiers - Quinn Bailey and Zane Cullers.  Thank you to all the parents who attended P/T Conferences districtwide.  National School Counselor Week was February 5-9 - thank you to our counselors - Mikel Landreth, Jenn Cattnach, Becky Dubs and Loni Watson.  To the family members, MS Student Council and HS Cardinals Committed for joining the Primary for our Be My Valentine Breakfast.  To the FCCLA organization for the “Baking for Birthdays” cupcake recognition for birthdays at the Primary School ~ these treats are so appreciated at the school for any students who do not have goodies on their birthday.   To Jen Cattnach for organizing a small group learning experience for our 4th grade Native American students. Thank you to Tammy and Brian LaPorte for their assistance. The following FCCLA members received gold at distinct competition:  Kaylee Sprock, Kenzie Pourier, Morgan Schommer and Chelsea Stephens.  Thank you to the counseling staff in supporting staff and students during the loss of a kindergarten student.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Superintendent Report

Superintendent Meyer provided an update on the Commissioner Advisory Committee that she serves on.  There are over 110 bills in the Legislature this year that focus on education. The SIP report was provided.

Board Member Roundtable (non-action)

President Huffman listed the many improvements and accomplishments that have been made over the last 7 years.  Thank you to past President Menke and the staff.

President Huffman suggested a new board member attendance policy.

President Huffman suggested moving meetings to the second Wednesday of the month.  If the board agrees it would begin with the 2024-25 school year.
