Board Meeting Minutes  11/8/17

Julie Barschow called the meeting to order on November 8, 2017 at 6:10 pm.

Quorum was established.  Board members present: Michelle Degon, Julia de Moraes, Julie Barschow, Patrick Aziz, Jenn Hodges, Amber Caskey, Natasha Chapman, Deb Ambrose, Summer McKinnon, Stephanie Turner. PTA members Navvab Taylor, Jen Brewerton, and Catherine Bacon.

Jenn Hodges motioned to approve minutes from October’s meeting. Amber Caskey seconded.

Principal’s Report

Mr. Aziz gave an update on events taking place at Joslin (bike challenge, center for the arts, Paramount Story Wranglers).

Bond passed! Joslin will get 2.2 million dollars, and we covered some of the projects that will be executed thanks to the bond.

President’s Report

Board transitions and introductions. We voted via email to transition Mrs Turner to a board member role and Jen Brewerton will take over as VP Fundraising. Removed Phoebe Hale and introduced Catherine Bacon as Parliamentarian.

Training Update:  We must complete online training by November 30th:  Foundations Leader Orientation (FLO). PTA will pay for training, all voted in favor.

Teacher appreciation lunch - monthly, not officially PTA sponsored, but we are looking for businesses that can be sponsors. Next lunch will be on November 17th and will be a baked potato bar. We currently have 40 teachers and staff members. Jen will ask Poke-Jos about sponsoring the December lunch.

Committee Reports

Box Tops: $212 pending. Takes 8-10 weeks for them to receive. New sheet was sent out today, parents have been requesting extra sheets.  Mrs Turner will post on western trails nextdoor requesting more Box Tops.

Membership: Joslin has earned the Fall increase award. Goal to get 10 new members in January. Class with highest % of membership will get 1 hour of board games.

Health and Wellness: Joslin hosted the 41st AAPER youth run - go jaguars! Cap10K - there is a Joslin Team and it costs $20 to participation. Jingle Bell Run Kids 1K, Kids 5K, and adult 5K there is a $5 discount on registration. Flyers will go out and Julie will include both of these in the JAG.

Send soft copy pdfs of business philanthropy kit to all members - Julie Barschow

Create more hard copy folders.

Spooktacular - post event discussion tabled until December meeting

Spring Raffle - Start selling tickets April 2nd (to be confirmed), drawing to be held on April 18th
