CHANNEL OPULENCE, DECADENCE: A 24-HOUR CHANNEL BASED ON THE EXHIBIT OF THE SAME TITLE

For Lump’s latest group exhibition, artist/curator William Paul Thomas asked artists, “If you attained a surplus of something that you greatly desired, would you flaunt it, share it, hoard it, hide it, or spoil it?” This was the launch point for OPULENCE DECADENCE, which, starting Friday, welcomes an entirely new batch of artists to Lump, each of whom made new work specifically for the show. It’s a disconcerting look at the severe imbalance of wealth and equity across the globe, that offers moments of rare beauty, buoyant humor, and unwavering critique.

Join us on the first Friday of December for a chilly but festive outdoor reception behind Lump. We will allow a few people in the gallery at a time to view the work.

participating artists:

Johannes Barfield – Leticia Clementina – Clarence Heyward – Jim Lee – Kwaku Osei – JP Jermaine Powell – Brittany Santiago – Whitney Stanley – Ariel Williams

Participants will turn off their cameras and change their name to anonymous. They will then put questions in the chat anonymously.

“Question Party: Your Uncertainty Will Not Be Used Against You” was hosted at Common Field’s annual convening this year (see in their program schedule here). One of its hosts, Art + Feminism co-founder and lead co-organizer, Jacqueline Mabey shared: I came to know the Question Party through my partner, Michael Mandiberg, who is an artist and educator. They developed the practice after hearing an experience relayed by Julie Perini, in which a group of artists held a conversation based on their own anonymous questions.”

It will be called Oracle Readings in the Bureau of Illumination. here is link to her project

From Elicia’s newly added “Artist Notes” on our website: “An object oracle functions much like a tarot deck-– instead of cards, the objects are the foundation for meaning-making and divination. In my practice, I frequently work with intuitive systems of knowledge. At Elsewhere, I wanted to create a space to honor the many objects in the collection and the stories they hold.” elsewheremuseum.org/projects/bureau-of-illumination

Spooky Storytelling featuring This Is How The World Will End” by Alumni Artist Dorothy

Everyone is welcome to share their spooky stories or other spooky offerings!

“This Is How The World Will End” is a puppet film originally made for the Detroit Puppet Slam in April 2020. The concept for the project was to make three miniature environments, all featuring camping tents, and to invite three artist colleagues to create ghost stories inspired by the scenes. Each collaborator then shared the story with me, and I created shadow puppets that illustrated their story from inside the tents.
