Anti-White Supremacy Policy

White Supremacy is defined as the belief that white people are a superior race and should therefore dominate society, typically to the exclusion or detriment of other racial and ethnic groups, in particular Black or Jewish people.

The way that white supremacy operates is through an institutionally perpetuated system of exploitation and oppression. This system and the behaviors that it rewards are designed to maintain and defend wealth, power, and privilege centered around whiteness.

This system relies on these 15 characteristics of white supremacy, which were previously identified by Kenneth Jones and Tema Okun, to maintain its control. The arbitrary rules of existence typically originated in slavery and include things such as policing the bodies of others, demanding perfectionism/professionalism, as well as perpetuating unnecessary urgency and various other toxic beliefs, which are keeping our community oppressed.

White supremacy is extremely harmful and at the actual root of racism, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, as well as the rise in violence around us. As an organization, we believe that Disabled Queer, Trans, and Intersex People of Color can not thrive as long as white supremacy is allowed to remain unchecked.

White supremacy is often used to keep people of color, especially Disabled Queer, Trans, and Intersex people of color both drained and out of power.

Unfortunately, white supremacy is not only perpetuated by white people, but also by people of color who have yet to unlearn their own biases and who perpetuate toxic behaviors which have otherwise been modeled by white supremacy.

Therefore, TEP has adopted a zero tolerance policy against any form of white supremacy within our organization, its properties, or the spaces that any of our staff and/or volunteers occupy.

This policy applies toward our board members, volunteers, staff, clients, partners, affiliates, donors, funders, etc.; without exception. Anyone found to be in violation of this policy may be removed from our organization, its programs, and/or properties without notice or additional conversation.

Questions about this policy can be directed to info@transempowerment.org
