NEWSLETTER 10                                                                        Monday 11th February 2019

Dear families

What a fantastic term we have had.  I can’t believe that the end of this week marks the halfway point through this academic year!  Thank you for all your support this term and we look forward to all the exciting things we have planned for the rest of the year!

Best wishes

Mrs Lewis

Parents’ Evening

Parents’ Evening will be held in the hall again this term (Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th February).  Children’s books will be laid out in classes 2 and 3 for you to look at before your meeting then please make your way down to the hall just before you allotted time where there will be a ‘waiting area’ in the middle of the hall.  Please try to be prompt for your appointment and also respect that appointment times are only 10 minutes long.  If you need to discuss anything in more depth, your child’s teacher will be happy to arrange a separate meeting.  We look forward to sharing your child’s progress and achievements with you.

School Playground

Please can we remind you to ensure children are properly supervised on the school playground if arriving before the start of the school day at 8:35am.  Also, at the end of the day, please remember to leave the school grounds by 3:20pm so that After School Club can use the playground safely.  Many thanks for your cooperation with this.

On Saturday 16th March, the PTA will be holding a Super STEM Day at school. Suitable for primary school children, this promises to be a fun-packed day full of activities designed to engage children in science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring hovercrafts, fossils, forensics, marine creatures, and more!

We also need any CDs or DVDs for the event.  If you have any that you no longer need or want, please drop them into the school office.

We will be asking for volunteers to help run the ticket and refreshments stall on the day, if you can please help even just for 30 minutes please come and speak to a member of the PTA or the office.

New Face!

This term, we have welcomed Niamh to our school.  She will be working at Breakfast Club and as a Lunchtime supervisor - I’m sure you will join us in welcoming her to the team!

Previous Reminders (a space for prior notices for easy access!)

Winter Resilience

This is often the time of year when we have parents requesting that their child stay in at break times and lunchtimes and miss PE or Forest School due to colds or generally feeling unwell.  Please note that if your child is well enough to be in school they cannot be excused from regular school activities such as these.

If there is a significant medical need, and you have consulted your GP, please come in and speak to your child’s class teacher and we can arrange for an individual plan to be prepared.

Reading Expectations

Please continue to read regularly with your children and record their reading in their reading record or homework diary.  We have now set up a new Reading Bingo for this term and shared it with the children.  Please click below to see a copy.

Years 1 and 2

Years 3 and 4

Years 5 and 6

We have noticed that a number of children are not wearing the correct uniform.  Please click here to visit the link on school website about school uniform.  Please note though that all children should be wearing black school shoes (not trainers), polo shirts should only be worn by children in Reception and ties are compulsory from year 2 (they are optional in year 1).  We are also finding that lots of uniform and PE kit is unnamed - please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.  Please also make sure your children attend school with warm coats, hats and gloves.

RM Unify

Remember all children have a log in to RM Unify (which can be found in their reading record or homework diary).  Please use these websites to support your child’s learning at home.  RM Unify can be accessed via the Pupil Area on the school website or via the following link https://hagbourneschool.rmunify.com/.  Children in Key Stage 2 now also have access to Times Tables Rockstars to support them with learning their times tables.

Please remember (where possible) to support your children with ‘life skills’ linked to maths such as money, time and measures.  Your children are very welcome to share what they have done at home with their teachers if they would like.  Activities to try include (but are not limited to):

  • Wearing a watch to tell the time (particularly analogue time)
  • Working out amounts of time (e.g. how long have they got to wait until dinner?)
  • Keeping track of the amount of time it takes to do something
  • Paying for small items in shops and working out change
  • Adding up small amounts of money when out and about
  • Working out how they could save pocket money to buy something
  • Baking or cooking - weighing ingredients, scaling recipes up/down
  • Weigh household items using kitchen scales and compare the weights
  • Measure the length of household items and compare the lengths
  • Opportunities to measure in arts and crafts activities

Thank you for your support with this.  Please also remember to encourage your children to practise their times tables and the associated division facts as this is a key skill in maths.

Car Park

Please could we ask that only Blue Badge holders park in the disabled spaces in the village hall.  Please also take care not to block these spaces in.  We do have families in our own school who need to use these spaces and they may also be needed by Blue Badge holders from the wider community.  If this continues to be an issue, we will ask the local PCSOs to monitor the situation.

Medical Updates

If there have been any changes or updates to your child’s medical needs, including medications and allergies, please ensure that you inform the school and fill out the relevant forms.  If your child has an inhaler or epipen in school please check the medication is in date!

Please also remember we are a nut and sesame seed free school, can we ask that you do not send your children in with any nut product - this includes Nutella and Peanut butter.

Hagbourne CE School Primary Facebook Page

Remember to ‘like’ our Facebook page to keep updated on some of the lovely things going on at school as well as the odd reminder about various events/trips etc.
