GARDEN CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS TRANSPORTATION POLICY

Garden City Public School busses will soon be picking up students for the coming school year, a tentative schedule has been set up. It may be necessary to make a few minor changes after the busses have been in operation for a few weeks.

Students are asked to keep in mind that riding the school bus is a privilege. All students do not have this privilege.

Students may retain their privilege to ride busses “to and from school only if they behave and obey the bus drivers. A school bus driver has complete charge of his/her bus and may recommend discipline of students who are loud, boisterous, rude or those displaying any other unacceptable behavior. A building principal or the Transportation Supervisor may suspend a student from the bus for the remainder of the school year or for any other stated period for gross misbehavior such as smoking, damage to the bus, causing the driver(s) repeated trouble, etc. If you damage a bus, you will be held responsible for the cost of the repairs.

Transportation of special education students may be arranged through the Special Services Department (762-6372).

Transportation to and from school will be provided to students who have physical handicaps, which interfere with their being able to walk, and who are not otherwise eligible for bus transportation. Parents may request this transportation on forms available at the Transportation Office (please call first, 734-762-8325). A physician must complete the form and return it to the Transportation Office. A note from a physician WILL NOT be honored. Each year a new form must be filled out.

The following page outlines the responsibilities of bus passengers. Please take time to review the material.
