February 2, 2022

Good afternoon,

At this point, no official decision regarding a delay or cancellation has been made for Thursday or Friday. This is a reminder of information that was shared during a robocall on October 11. During the 2021-22 school year VGSD intends to use Flexible Instructional Days instead of  traditional snow days. A Flexible Instructional Day requires students to complete work at home on the Flexible Instructional Day and return their work on the next in-person student day. Students in each building have received information and updates on how to successfully complete assignments on these days for students to be considered present. Students in the elementary will be receiving paper packets. Students in the high school will have downloaded assignments to their school-issued chromebooks. If students do not complete their work, they will be considered absent. Please see below for additional information on FID day expectations.

Thank you!

Flexible Instructional Days - Student Expectations 2021-2022

Elementary Guidance (K-6)

Elementary students are expected to keep their manila Flexible Instructional Day (FID) envelope in their backpacks, until it is needed.

In the event of a Flexible Instructional Day (i.e., inclement weather), families will be notified via the Robocall System that the school day will be used as a “Flexible Instructional Day.” When possible, students will take their devices home the day before the FID.

Students will complete assignments on the Flexible Instructional Day for each class according to the FID. For example, if this was the 1st FID, students should complete the assignment that corresponds to the 1st day in his/her packet.

Students in grades K-2 will have 1 assignment in ELA and 1 assignment in Math to complete for each day.

Students in grades 3-6 will have 1 assignment in ELA, 1 assignment in Math, 1 assignment in Science, and 1 assignment in Social Studies to complete for each day.

Students are expected to submit their assignments to the teacher on the next in-person day, as this will count towards attendance. (For example - If there is inclement weather on a Monday, and a FID is scheduled, then students are expected to turn their completed work into their teachers on Tuesday when they come back to school.)

Students who do not submit the completed work to their teachers on the next in-person day (the day after the FID), will be marked as absent. This will count towards their total number of absences.

High School Guidance (7-12)

Students will have 5 assignments from each of their classes downloaded on their chromebooks for up to 5 possible Flexible Instructional Days (FID) over the course of the school year.  It is imperative that students transport their chromebooks back and forth from home to school each day so that they can access these assignments. These assignments will also be posted on the teacher’s Google Classroom.

Teachers will be available to meet with students via Google Meets between 12 - 2.  Teachers will also be available via email or phone during normal building hours.
