- Presentation on the potential improvements referred by a committee
- Discussion and analysis of the potential improvements
- Recommendations and resolutions on the bike lane improvements
- MG: take existing bike lanes between 3rd & RI to connect to Harry Thomas Bike Lane
- North of RIA, not a lot of space – probably something to take outside of this
- 2nd to R ST bike lane
- 3rd + 2nd Protected bike lane extensions to Dave Thomas Circle for those traveling on wider, 1 way streets due to excessive speed
- 4th St NE: Lincoln to T
- Frequently cut through Bryant St parking lot to get to MBT
- Lots of folks biking this route
- 3rd is a little slow
- 4th feels a little more speedy
- Get lots of cut-through on the one-way roads in Eckington
- Important to show the aspect of the proposal that calms traffic speeds
- Important to note elevation changes for those
- Let's explain terminology so everyone can get on the same page
- How would we split this up to tell cohesive stories?
- Can we phrase these resolutions about telling a story about cohesive infrastructure?
- moveDC: long-term plan about connecting parts of DC
- Lincoln Road is on the moveDC plan
- Was removed from this fiscal year b/c the NCap study is inclusive of the Lincoln Road route
- How would we present this?
- EG: Important to emphasize that these already exist, that we just need to make them better
- MS: Most concerns are around parking, probably. Might be a good idea to point out the traffic calming aspect.
- SM: Would need to understand potential daylighting effects if the parking lane is offset.
- SM: we should emphasize the safety aspects and ensure it’s not solely about bike lanes
- EG: important to get information from traffic studies and other safety stats.
- MG: neighbors' biggest complaints generally are “I never was told about this, I wasn’t included.” I don’t want this to be a fight, people should feel included. Flyering is a good solution.
- EG: might be good to do outreach for transit riders since raised bus stops may happen
- Committee becoming more familiar with the blocks in question
- Determine which blocks should be grouped in resolutions
- Start thinking about outreach:
- What would a flier look like?
- What community orgs should we engage?
- Eckington Civic Association?
- NoMA BID – taking the lead on Dave Thomas rebuild
- What community spaces are nearby?
7. Public Comment (5:57 PM)
