Introduction

Martin Luther King Jr was a civil rights activist who fought for equal rights. Martin Luther King Jr was born on 15 January 1929 who was assassinated on 4 April 1968. Martin Luther King Jr is known for his contributions to the American civil rights movement as well as to end racism and segregation. Martin Luther King Jr made an impact on others by leading the civil rights movement in the United States to end segregation and fight discrimination.

Early Life

Martin Luther King Jr was born in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Firstly Martin Luther King Jr. studied at Booker T. Washington High School, where he graduated in 1944 at the age of 15. He then went to Morehouse College for four years, graduating in 1948 at the age of 19. After that, he attended Crozer Theological Seminary, where he graduated at the age of 22 in 1951 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. Following that he went to Boston University School of Theology with a special interest in philosophy and ethics and while he was at Boston University he got a Doctorate of philosophy and he graduated in 1955 at the age of 26. Martin Luther King’s Jr parents were Martin Luther King Sr and Alberta Williams King. He met his spouse, Coretta Scott King, when they were both attending university, she went to New England Conservatory of Music. They then married on June 18, 1953. The married couple then had 4 children: Bernice King, Yolanda King, Dexter King and Martin Luther King III.

Martin Luther King Jr went through tons of obstacles such as segregation, racism and discrimination. While also overcoming many obstacles such as getting arrested over 20 times for protesting, racial injustice and getting attacked several times.

Impact

Martin Luther King Jr made a significant impact on the people around him because he stood up against racial inequality, made the "I have a dream” speech and led the civil rights movement. This made a significant impact to others because if he hadn't stood up to racism, there would be no equal rights for African Americans and there would be more cases of racism.

Legacy

Martin Luther King Jr had many accomplishments in his lifetime, like getting equal rights for African Americans and stopping racism. He also had many awards like the Nobel Peace Prize, Grammy Award for Best Audio Book, Narration & Storytelling Recording, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Congressional Gold Medal, Spingarn Medal, Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, Margaret Sanger Awards and Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Nonfiction. Martin Luther King Jr’s long lasting impact  was getting the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This impact made an effect on others because if he hadn’t stood up there would be no racial equality to African Americans  and he led the civil rights movement.

Conclusion

Martin Luther King Jr made an impact by stopping racism and standing up to segregation so African Americans can live in peace and so they can also have equal rights. Martin Luther King Jr’s famous quote was the I have a dream speech and it went by “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” The overall message that Martin Luther King Jr stood for in his lifetime was that he stood up against racism and we should stand up to racism.
