2022-2023 RCMIS Open Positions
Expectations of all board members:
- Adhere to the three legal duties of a board member - duty of care[1], duty of loyalty[2] and duty of obedience[3].
- Serve as an active advocate and ambassador for the organization and fully engages in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission
- Give a personal financial donation
- Prepare for, attend and conscientiously participate in board meetings

President | 5 hours per month | - Presides over board meetings
- Appoints committees and committee chairs
- Serves as the primary contact for the board
- Sets goals and objectives for the board
- Holds members accountable for attending meetings
- Serves as the Executive Director of RCMIS
- Meets with Principals at MI programs to identify needs and potential areas for support.

Vice President | 3-5 hours per month
10 hours per month during event months | - Fulfills President’s responsibilities when presiding officer is absent
- Attends meetings with the Mandarin Advisory committee and shares updates with the RCMIS board
- Serves on committees to learn board operations

Treasurer | 3 hours per month
Additional time required for filing tax returns | - Reconciles bank accounts and produces financial statements
- Ensures tax returns and legal forms are filed on time
- Assists in preparing the annual budget
- Reviews the annual audit and presents to the board

Secretary | 1-2 hours per month | - Distributes the meeting agenda and relevant documents before the meeting
- Take notes and prepares the official minutes
- Records off-meeting votes
- Works with President, Treasurer and board members to organize documents on shared Drive (by-laws, minutes, Form 990s, rosters, etc.)
- Schedules Board Meetings - sends video chat link or arranges location for in-person meetings

Financial Secretary | 1-2 hours per month | - Receives, records and deposits all funds received by RCMIS in a timely manner
- Reconciles the financial records with the treasurer
- Prepare and send Thank you notes and tax receipts to donors

- Recruits committee members to support event(s)

Contact Management | 1-2 hours per month | - Manages Salesforce database
- Works closely with Treasurer and Financial Secretary to report on gifts
- Serves as backup to the Financial Secretary

Team Administrator | 1-2 hours per month | - Acts as Google Suite Administrator (Admin portal, gmail accounts, Drive)
- Manages RCMIS private vs. public access
- Organizes and contributes to website
- Maintains spreadsheet of accounts

Communications | 1 hour per month | - Writes and distributes monthly newsletter

[3] Duty of Obedience: Ensure that the nonprofit obeys applicable laws and regulations; follows its own bylaws; and that the nonprofit adheres to its stated corporate purposes/mission
