Summer School

The focus of the 2023 Elementary Literacy and Numeracy Summer School Program is to continue student engagement through the month of July. Programs, embedded in Literacy and Numeracy, are developed by the local summer school principal to reflect the local school focus.

Programs are offered in-person to students in K to Grade 8, from July 4 to July 28, 2023, in various locations around the city. This year, one remote program will also be available.

Registration Information

  1. Program Dates: July 4 to July 28, 2023
  2. Registration is online
  3. Most classes run for three (3) hours from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., except for four (4) full day sites that run 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. which include: Oakridge PS, Greenholme JMS, Rose Avenue JPS, and Yorkwoods PS.

 Elementary Special Education Summer School 2023

Registration Now Open!

The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) will be offering a summer program for students who receive support from the Developmental Disability Special Education Program, Physical Disability Program, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program, and who have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). These half-day programs will be held at various locations throughout the TDSB. They will support students to develop their independence through programming in the areas of functional literacy and numeracy skills, activities of daily living, and communication and social skills through a creative curriculum that can include technology, physical fitness, art, music and drama. The information below provides a brief outline of the programs.

DATES:        Tuesday, July 4, to Friday, July 28, 2023

HOURS:           9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

LOCATIONS:    Various locations

 The online application links are below. Please note that students admitted will be contingent on overall registration numbers and staffing resources, as limited spaces are available. Bus transportation for accepted students is provided and the transportation guidelines, including code of conduct, will still apply. Please complete the application as accurately as possible to ensure timely processing.

Note: Summer school acceptance letters will be sent by the summer school before June 30th.

Track and Field: Grade 4 - 8

Grades 4 - 8 are invited to try out for the Track & Field Team

  • Practices (and try-outs) for 200m, 400m, and 800m take place every Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00AM, on the school field, starting April 18.
  • Students are asked to bring a filled water bottle, running shoes and comfortable clothing.

Sprint Tryouts will take place during school Wednesday April 19th.

  • Grades 4 & 5 have the opportunity to participate in sprint tryouts Wednesday April 19 Periods 5 & 6.  
  • Grades 6 to 8s can participate in sprint tryouts Wednesday April 19, Periods 7 & 8.

Primary Track and Field: Run, Jump, Throw!

Students in grades 1-3 are invited to join Humewood's new run, jump, throw team! We will be meeting on the field on Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:00 am. Students will have the choice of several sport activities, including low hurdles, 300m running, target throw, and standing long jump. If you have any questions, please email anna.rutledge@tdsb.on.ca

Summer Music & Art Camps

The TDSB Summer Music and Art Camps are open to young artists and musicians of all skill levels and offers a variety of programs including band, orchestra, strings and individual instruction. Campers will have the opportunity to improve their skills, make new friends, and perform in a final concert at the end of the camp. Don't miss this chance to spend your summer making music and having fun!

African Heritage Elementary Program

The African Heritage Program connects students to the contributions, histories, legacies, cultures and traditions of people of African descent through inquiry and experiential learning. The curriculum is designed to provide TDSB and non-TDSB students with the opportunity to learn and explore experiences inspired by the principles of Nguzo Saba, a Swahili word also known as the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa that honours the people of African Ancestry, their rich heritage and past, celebrations, thanksgiving, empowerment, and daily affirmations. International Languages Elementary Program & Adult ESL

International Languages Elementary Program is an enriching learning experience for students to learn a new language and discover other cultures. Open to all TDSB and non-TDSB students, programs are currently offered in-person and there is no language background necessary. Registration is ongoing, please visit www.ileahprograms.ca.

The Adult ESL program is offering free* in-person English language instruction to qualified adults 18 years of age and over.
