Democratic Socialists of America
National Political Committee
Resolution No.:
Title: Resolution In Support of Palestinian Resistance to Zionist Occupation
Resolved, DSA adopts the attached statement for immediate release,
Resolved, DSA shall organize an emergency meeting within the next two weeks in which socialist elected representatives at all levels shall be invited to be briefed on the context and history of the occupation, understand DSA’s democratically-developed position, and receive education on how we expect them to act as leaders in the fight for Palestinian liberation. Notes and educational documents from this meeting shall be made available to all DSA members.
Resolved, DSA calls upon DSA’s elected representatives in Congress to refuse to vote in favor of military aid to Israel. We reassert that doing so goes against the principles and policies of our national organization, and can be grounds for escalating discipline, starting with formal censure.
DSA Stands in Solidarity with Palestinians in their Resistance to Zionist Occupation
The Democratic Socialists of America stands in solidarity with Palestinians who are fighting for liberation against the occupation of their land and the murder of their people at the hands of Zionist colonialism. We condemn efforts by the US government to frame Palestinians’ anti-colonial struggle against 75 years of oppression as unjust and unprovoked. We call on DSA members, especially our elected representatives in Congress, to join in the fight for Palestinian liberation and against further military aid to Israel.
Palestinians have every right to resist their occupation, which began with the Nakba in 1948; resistance to oppression is not only inevitable, but necessary for working people to win a better world. The support for the Palestinian cause is enshrined in our platform, which states that DSA stands in solidarity with the “Palestinian struggle against apartheid, colonialism, and military occupation, and for equality, human rights, and self-determination, including the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.”
The fight for Palestinian liberation is also the tip of the spear for the fight against repression of social movements for working class liberation at home; anti-BDS laws and pledges for employment make non-violent exercise of free speech a fireable offense or even illegal, and pushes for governments and organizations to adopt the IHRA definition of anti-semitism absurdly equate opposition to the occupation to hatred of Jewish people.
The National Political Committee of DSA will organize an emergency meeting in which socialist elected representatives at all levels shall be invited to be briefed on the context and history of the occupation, understand DSA’s democratically-developed position, and receive education on how how we expect them to act as leaders in the fight for Palestinian liberation. We in particular call upon DSA’s elected representatives in Congress to refuse to vote in favor of military aid to Israel. We reiterate that doing so goes against the principles and policies of our national organization, and can be grounds for escalating discipline, starting with formal censure.
We call on DSA members and all those who share our vision of global working-class liberation to fight for Palestinian right to resistance and against the Israeli settler-colonial occupation:
There will now be calls for support for the Israeli apartheid regime from across the Western world, continuing an ongoing obfuscation of the truth of the oppression that Palestinians face under occupation. In moments like this we demand true justice and true peace: full recognition of the right of return; the halting of arms sales and “aid” from the US that continues the current state of affairs; an end to the occupation - from the river to the sea.
