Statement supporting the divestment proposal submitted by Dartmouth Divest for Palestine, to the Dartmouth College trustee Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility.

We are members of the Dartmouth Community for Divestment (DCD). We are former students, faculty, staff, and community members from the 1980s who worked hard and sacrificed to force Dartmouth to divest from companies profiting from Apartheid in South Africa.

We are heartened by the activism on campus. The Dartmouth Community is not insensitive to what is happening in the Middle East; students, faculty, other members of the community, are putting themselves on the line, trying to force the college to live up to its moral standards, like we did when we were in Hanover. In addition to their activism, they put a tremendous amount of work into this formal divestment proposal, producing an impressively thorough document. We are proud to stand by their side. We endorse the divestment proposal and urge the college to divest now!

It took many years for Dartmouth to join the right side of history then; we call on our college to act faster this time and immediately begin divesting from companies that directly support Israel’s atrocities against Palestinians.

Collectively, and individually, we stand with Dartmouth Divest for Palestine and support their divestment proposal to the Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility (ACIR).

Divest Now!
