A New Type Font Called Aptos

By Debra Staab

Calibri has been the default font for Microsoft products, such as Word and Outlook, for 15 years, but no more.  Move over Calibri, and let Aptos take center stage.

The new typeface is named after our very own local community of Aptos.  The town of Aptos in Santa Cruz County is made up of several villages: Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley, Aptos Village, Cabrillo, Seacliff, Rio del Mar, and Seascape.  The total population is around 25,000.

It is commonly believed that the name Aptos derives from a Costanoan Indian word for "meeting of two waters."

Those waterways are known today as Valencia and Aptos creeks.
