Non-Discrimination against Apprentice & Parents
Federal law guarantees equal educational opportunities to apprentice-parents and apprentices who are expecting. Under California law, apprentices who are expecting or already are parents may not be excluded from any academic, extracurricular, research, occupational training, or other program or activity. All apprentices have the right to stay in regular training sites and be free of discrimination. We treat pregnancy as we treat other medical conditions. Health plans, medical benefits, and related services are to be provided to pregnant apprentices in the same manner as services are provided to apprentices with other temporary disabilities. For additional information about the rights of pregnant and parenting apprentices, please contact Legal Advocates for Children & Youth (LACY) at 408-280-2424, or the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights at 415-556- 4275.
