Read until Chapter 2~ Chapter 3

So, this part of the book felt like I’m reading a very common love storybook. The main character which is Anthony feeling lonely and then meets a beautiful girl and falls in love with her. However, even though the overall story of this part of the book is like a cliche, I think that there are some specific parts that make me interesting. Anyways, From the last chapter that I’ve read, it seems to me that Anthony is a lonely guy who lives in a fancy new york apartment by himself and he feels lonely since there is no one to be with him at all the time. However, in this part of the book, Anthony gets really interested in a girl called Gloria Gilbert.  He keeps asking questions and is willing to go see his parents know about the Gilberts.

In the quote I highlighted, It feels that Anthony is like a child who is gonna go to the amusement park and have fun. So, he is talking all the time constantly.  

And also since the previous context was explicitly saying that Anthony is lonely and alone, it makes me feel that the whole mood of the book is dark and low. Even though this moment of the scene is very bright, like it describes using the words softly, rising in the sun, and silk, it still feels a bit dark. What I think is that the only way for Anthony to solve this dark and low problem is to meet a girl and I think that it is going to be Gloria. Right now, I think Anthony’s current feeling is like a grey cloud. The background of the grey cloud is bright and shining but in the middle, there is a single grey cloud and no one knows why or how to remove it. It just stays there. It is the same for Anthony too. His surroundings are perfect like just imagine you are living in the best penthouse in the middle of new york, having billions of dollars, meeting with friends going to nice restaurants to have a nice piece of steak and a glass of wine, and just enjoying the life. This is basically what I would want for my life. As I’ve said Anthony’s surrounding is almost perfect. However, inside Anthony, it is dark, alone, and lonely.  

However, with these inner problems, Anthony met Gloria. She came to Anthony like a beaming light.

Ever since the first meeting of Gloria and Anthony, Anthony was slowly falling in love with Gloria. Many factors made him fall him love with Gloria. For example, even though Anthony confides that he couldn’t find the meaning of working, Gloria still complies and listen to Anthony, which is a hard thing to imagine considering the time back then. Also, when Anthony brings Gloria to a cheap place, Gloria is still happy, which means that she doesn’t chase over Anthony’s money and she is really is in love with Anthony.

However, in this lovely relationship, cracks start to happen.

Looking back at the reason for this crack, I think this all started when Anthony started to meet the Boeckman. I think Anthony was feeling a bit jealous of Boeckman. This is well shown when Anthony suddenly decides to go see his working-class girlfriend, Geraldine.
