Carter County Schools values the important role parents and guardians play in the education and success of their children. To support family engagement, we offer Skyward Family Access—a secure, easy-to-use, web-based tool that provides near real-time information about your child’s:
*Grades *Attendance *Class Schedule * Food Service *Teacher Messages *Demographic Information
Your Family Access login works for all children in your household, regardless of grade level or school. Stay connected, stay informed, and help us keep your child’s records current by using Skyward Family Access and completing the annual online registration on time. To meet student registration requirements and ensure the safety and accurate documentation of all students, all parents/guardians are required to complete the online registration process each year. This helps ensure that both office staff and teachers have the most up-to-date student information.
- Registration must be completed online; paper forms will not be provided.
- Avoid using a cell phone for registration: Some districts have found that using a cell phone for registration can lead to issues, so it's recommended to use a computer or tablet instead.
- The deadline for completing registration for all returning students is August 29, 2025.
- If you need help with the process, each school’s computer lab is available for parent/guardian use.

Each video is just one minute long and covers specific features, from Online Registration, checking grades and attendance to setting up notifications. RETURNING STUDENT ONLINE REGISTRATION
Applies to the following students
- Students that ended the 2024-2025 school year in a Carter County School.
- Rising 9th Graders from any Carter County School for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Rising 9th grade student that ended the 2024-2025 school year in a Carter County School District Elementary or Middle School and will be attending a Carter County District High School for the 2025-26 school year: You student’s record has been processed into their allocated high school for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Students who has previously been enrolled, at any grade level, in the Carter County School District in the past must complete the Returning Student Registration form when re-enrolling into a Carter County School.
- Example – A student who attended the Carter County School District in Headstart, Pre K, or Kindergarten but are now in 8thor even higher.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION

Online Registration is to be completed by the parent/guardian. The following steps will guide you through the Returning Student Online Registration process. If you encounter any issues, please contact your child's school for assistance — they're happy to help!
Step 1: Locate Link
- Please go to the following link:

Step 2: Sign In
- Enter your credentials to sign in. If you cannot remember this info, contact your child’s school. This information stays the same from year to year. Do not share your credentials with anyone, including your child. They have their own credentials to sign into Skyward.
Step 3: Open Family Access tab
Step 4: Open Returning Student Registration
- You have two options, both work the same.
- 1) Choose from the menu on the left, this will list each student in your household.
- 2) Choose from the message in the middle of the page, which lists each student as well as which school your student(s) is currently assigned to.
- If you have multiple children you will need to complete this process for each individual child.
Step 5: Complete all steps
- Read instructions then click on the right side of the screen
- To complete each step click “Complete Step () and move to Step () at the bottom of each screen.
- As each step is completed, a green check mark will appear beside the step to show it has been completed.
- When all steps are complete and each one has a green check mark, Click COMPLETE registration.
Step 6: Submit Registration
- The following page will appear when registration is complete
- If any changes were made that require district approval (as in address) your registration will state pending until approved by the district.
Step 7: To make changes or update information
- If you need to change or update any information during the school year, Click on “RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION” on the left side of the screen
- Click “MARK RETURNING STUDENT REGISTRATION AS NOT COMPLETE AND MAKE CHANGES” (this link is in blue)
- Make changes and SUBMIT registration again.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING NEW STUDENT ENROLLMENT
If you Currently have a Student Enrolled in One of Our Schools and Need to Enroll a New Student
Step 1: Log into Family Access
- Log into your Family Access Account then select New to District Registration on the left side menu.
- Complete the Application and click to submit (for detailed instructions refer to the instructions below for the Application Process beginning with #3).
- Required Documents: Upload during the process, or bring required documents to your child’s school.
- Optional Contact the school to let them know you have completed New Student Enrollment.
If Your Family is New to the Carter County School System
Step 1: Request an Account
to create an account for a New Student.
- Complete the required fields then click on “Click Here to Submit Account Request.” An email will then generate to the email address provided with a login and password along with a link for the parent/guardian to access the application portal.
Step 2: Enrollment Application
- The link provided in the email takes you to the application portal for you to enter the login and password provided. (For Skyward language translation, open link in a browser or other app with a built-in translator).
Step 3: Complete the Application
- Within the application are instructions for each area. There are 4 information areas to complete: Student Information – Family – Medical – Emergency Contacts
- Note that anywhere you see an (*) asterisk, this is a required field.
Step 4: Submit Documents
- The last 2 areas are for Documents and District Forms: Requested Documents – Additional District Forms
Step 5: Review Application
- All steps must be complete before the application can be submitted.
- Under Step 6, within the application is an orange button that you must click to submit. Be sure you see a green check by all 6 Steps showing they are complete. To the right you will see: Date Completed with a green check.
- Each step can be viewed or edited at this time, and the application is printable.
Step 6: Submit Application to the District
- The last step is for the parent/guardian to click to “Submit Application to the District”. Once you’ve submitted the application, it can be viewed, but not edited.
- Once you submit the application, the system will take you to the summary page. If there is a sibling to enroll, click the button “Click to Enroll Additional Students”.
- If the system does not allow you to click to submit, that means it is seeing a step incomplete. Please review each step to ensure each step has been submitted, even if you haven’t added data to that page.

What is Skyward Family Access?
Carter County Schools realizes the important role that parents/guardians play in the education of children and the importance of parent/guardian involvement. Skyward Family Access is an easy to use web based tool for parents and guardians that provides secure, near real time information about your child’s grades, attendance, class schedule, messages from teachers, and demographic information. Your Family Access login will work for all children who live in your household, regardless of grade level or school of attendance.
How do I get access to Skyward Family Access?
Your student’s school sets up access at time of enrollment. If you are a current family and don’t remember your login, please contact your student’s school.
Is there a free mobile app for Skyward Family Access?
Yes, the app is available in the Apple App and Google Play stores.
- Choose school district using any one of these three options:
- Current Location
- This option will only be available to use if you have your “Location Services”* turned on in your phone settings. You will want to choose “CARTER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT” from the results.
- Please consult with your carrier or review your phone’s manual if you are unable to locate these settings on your phones
- Postal Code
- This option can be used by entering “37643” as the postal code and then select “CARTER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT” from the results.
- District Name
- Select, CARTER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT.
- Enter Login Credentials, as the parent you enter in your Family Access Login and Password, DO NOT LOGIN as the student. If you have logged on as the student, you will need to remove app (delete it) then download the app again, and login as “parent”.
- Create a PIN, you select your own PIN, you need to remember this PIN. Carter County Schools is not responsible for the PINs that parents create. If you forget your PIN, you will need to remove app, then download the app again and go through the setup process.
- Click on the Mobile login. Login and you should see all of your children, tied to Family Access

Do I need a separate account for each child? Can I see student information for children attending?
You will have one account that gives you access to all of your children attending school within this district.
Are passwords case sensitive?
Yes, passwords are case sensitive.
Can I change my password?
Yes, you will have the option to change your password once you login to Skyward Family Access.
What if I forget my password?
Go to the Skyward Family Access log in page and click on “Forgot Login/Password” link. You will receive an email with your username and a link for your password. Please follow the directions in the email to reset your password.
Will I need to sign up for Skyward Family Access every year?
No, once you have an active account it will remain active as long as you have a student enrolled.
Can/should I share my password with my student?
No, parents and students have different passwords because they have different types of access. Students in grades 6-12 will have their own Student Access account (login will be provided by the school). Skyward Family Access is password and user name protected. PLEASE KEEP YOUR PASSWORD AND USER NAME CONFIDENTIAL.
How do I make changes to my student’s information during the year?

Do I have to register my student every year?

I can’t complete Online Registration, “Skylert” will not let me update information, what should I do?

I can't get Skyward Family Access to work on my computer; what should I do?
Skyward Family Access is a web-based product, so it should work on your computer like any other web- based application. First, you should check to make sure you are using the right Skyward Family Access website address, or URL.
When I log on to Skyward Family Access, why am I sometimes automatically logged out?
Skyward Family Access has a default security setting that will terminate your connection if your computer is idle for too long. This feature is designed to protect against unauthorized access and cannot be changed.
Why can’t I see one of my children in Family Access?
The child may not be linked to your Family Access account. Please contact your student's school.
Can other people see my child’s personal information on Family Access?
Family Access is password protected and uses Secure Socket Layers (SSL) communications protocol. Your child’s information is only available to authorized parents or guardians that are associated with your child’s student records in our administrative system. Please safeguard your login information.
