Guardian Notification defined as phone-call, email, letter, or text.

Acronym Key: EXC - Excused, UNV - Unverified, UNX - Unexcused, P - Present, TDY - Tardy

ADM	Admin-Present	Present	n/a	A student physically present in school, but in an administrator approved location other than their assigned schedule for non-disciplinary reasons. ISS	In School Suspension	Present	EXC	Assigned by a building administrator for student discipline. The student is allowed to attend school but in a specific location (Has to be for 2 hours or more in order to be considered an ISS).
EXC	Excused	Absent	EXC		Illnesses with a Doctor’s Note School Nurse sends home Funeral or death of a family member with documentation Medical or dental appointment - with Dr. Note(office) Required Court Appearance - for the time spent in, going to and from court documentation required Bring your child to work day - documentation must be provided Up to 2 Caregiver/Guardian initiated College Visit/yr

EXP	Expelled	Absent	UNX	The student is recorded as SUS until they have their official Letter from Central Office and expulsion hearing (Ideally no more than 10 days SUS before expulsion recorded in PS if possible)

VAC	Vacation	Absent	UNX	Parents are encouraged not to take their child out of school for vacations. Vacations are unexcused. When a family vacation must be scheduled during the school year, the parents should discuss the matter with the principal and the student’s teacher(s) to make necessary arrangements. It may be possible for the student to receive certain assignments that are to be completed during the trip. Vacation request forms can be found online or picked up in the school’s office.
EO	Early Out	Present	EXC	NWEE & NWEL - 3-3:40 and an early release is 2:00 MS- NA AHS - NA HS- NA
UNV	Unverified	Absent	UNX	A teacher-initiated code to use for taking attendance in the classroom when a student isn’t physically present.

Illnesses - specify that illnesses are excused only when they are “severe injury or illness too severe for the student to attend class.” This specificity can help parents from excusing minor illnesses, physical complaints, or things like sleeping in. (How Sick is Too Sick for School)
