Journal Entry: The End of Email

Prompt: Could Gen Z Free The World From Email?

Response: No, strictly speaking Email isn’t likely to completely leave the professional communication field anytime soon. Not only does it still have an extremely high standing within the field, many organizations are far too rooted with the usage of email services for their primary or secondary form of communication. Although it’s true that a large number of people are fed up with email services as a whole and believe it is outdated when compared to other forms of online communication for professional use, it still serves its purpose well acting as a uniform communication medium in professional environments and is already deeply ingrained in many large organizations work routines. Similarly to this article, it’s been speculated by various sources that Email would be rendered obsolete sometime in the near future due to various reasons, however, the numbers say otherwise. The number of emails sent per year only continues to increase, combatting the speculation that it would be rendered obsolete anytime soon. It’s unlikely that email will leave the professional communication field anytime soon, although it is likely that newer communication services will be introduced widely to the field to fill different or similar roles in the future. Similar to how Skype and Zoom have been picked up and dropped off respectively over the years to fill the need of online video conferencing service needs in the professional field. It’s also possible that rather than email largely leaving the professional communication field, that the services are instead picked up or largely shifted to different companies that also provide email services, compared to the providers currently in place.
