Jog-a-thon / Valentine’s Party: (This Wednesday, February 14th) You may send in your child’s valentine cards and items for our cookie party. Please let me know if you need to know what you were to bring. We have activities planned all day and will need some help throughout the day. Please let me know if you can come and help me. It is free dress for those who wear Valentine colors (red, pink, purple or white) Jeans are allowed. Also, be sure your child wears tennis shoes for the jog-a thon. I also need someone to cut out hearts for our mailboxes. I will provide the construction paper and send it home with your child. Jog-a-thon: It is also on Valentine’s Day! Sponsor sheets were handed out at the rally. Please help your child get sponsors for this event. It is lots of fun and the children will have a great time. We need volunteers to help set up for this event and stay to help count laps for our class. We are scheduled to jog first. Be sure to send in your pink pledge sheets even if you have not collected the money. Mrs. Barnett will return it after the run. Monies will go toward projects around the school and playground equipment. If you did not get a pledge sheet, please let me know. We are in need of parents to help set up. Please come early if possible to the gym.
Re-enroll Today for 2018-19 School Year
If you haven’t done so already, please pick up a Re-Enrollment packet from the office. Re-enrollment fee is $200.00 until February 28th ($50 discount). If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school office.
Teacher -n -service: There will be no school on this Friday, Feb. 16th. Daycare will be available.
President’s Day: (Monday, February 19th) There will be no school. The campus will be closed.nb
Mission Week: Mission Week will take place March 5 - 9. We will spend the week learning about missionaries and the work they do for the Lord. There will be a special chapel & offering with a great speaker on Wednesday, March 7th, and after an International Potluck in the gymnasium. We are asking each child to bring a dish from his/her cultural background that day. Your child may also dress in costume from your native background if possible. All is invited! Offering: We will be sending home a little offering box for your child to collect change for the special offering. The offering box will be taken to the gymnasium and your child will dump the change into a big container during the chapel. The money collected will go to the Boys & Girls Missionary Crusade. It goes to help buy material to teach about Jesus in other countries. Boys and girls from all over United States will participate in this offering. I will also teach a unit on Paul the Missionary in Bible that week.
Student of the Week: We will honor Mellina Kirkland this week. Be sure to send in pictures and any favorite items to share. Please send in a special snack or treat to share with the class on any day. Rachel will take Bubbles home on Friday.
Share Day: (Thursday) Please send in an object that starts with (Tt).
Spring Pictures: (Tuesday, February 27th) All the children will take a picture. No money is needed beforehand. Everyone will receive pictures and then you can purchase the packet or sheets. If you choose not to, you will then return it to my class.
Progress Reports: (next week) (Wednesday, February 21st) They will be emailed on Wednesday evening. Be sure to let me know if you did not receive it.
Open House: This year’s Open House will be held, Tuesday, March 13th, at 7:00 p.m. Please mark your calendar. It will be a half day with daycare. We are working hard and we’ll have many great things to show you. We will meet in the sanctuary first and then be excused to the classes.
This week we will be working on the following areas:
Math: We will continue our unit on number to 100. We will review our unit on fractions. We have been eating fractions in class.
Phonics: It is a very exciting time in class these days and we are moving along. Please be faithful reading the Pathways that come home. We have been working on our special sounds and now we our practicing special sound blends. (two consonants together blending a new sound)
Sight Words: orange, out, play & pretty.
Language Arts: We will begin reading about the life of Abraham Lincoln and introduce George Washington.
Social Studies/Science: We will begin a unit on Patriotism and learn about our country centering on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The children will learn about the Symbols of Freedom.
Handwriting: We will continue to work in our “Writing with Phonics” workbook and Dictation. I will dictate vowels, blends, and go on to words. The children will then write them onto their paper. At the bottom of the page we will practice difficult letters.
Bible: We will now move to the New Testament and start our new unit on “Jesus Grows Up” and begin “
Bible Verse: We will will continue to learn the Ten Commandments. We will learn two each week. Please review: 1. “You shall have no other gods before.” 2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol.”
3. “You shall not take the name of your Lord in vain.” 4. “You shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy.” 5. “Honor your father and mother.” 6. Exodus 20: 3-17 (We will review Commandments 1-6 this week and add 7 & 8 next week.
Character Trait: Friendliness (eager to share myself with others)
Music: Students are also preparing for the Easter Concert.
