The Keystone Exams are end-of-course assessments designed to evaluate proficiency in academic content. Beginning with the class of 2023–2024, students must demonstrate proficiency on the Algebra I, Literature, and Biology Keystone Exams to graduate or fulfill one of the other pathways provided to graduate.
Students at WHHS currently enrolled in Algebra I, Honors Algebra I, Biology, Honors Biology, English 10, and Honors English 10 will take the corresponding Keystone Exam this spring. Additionally, students who did not score proficient during a previous exam may also be taking exams during this wave.
Woodland Hills will be completing Keystone Exams online and all testing students will need to come ready and prepared on each of their testing dates.
Keystone Exam Scale
Content Area | Below Basic | Basic | Proficient | Advanced |
Algebra I | 1200-1438 | 1439-1499 | 1500-1545 | 1546-1800 |
Biology | 1200-1459 | 1460-1499 | 1500-1548 | 1549-1800 |
Literature | 1200-1443 | 1444-1499 | 1500-1583 | 1584-1800 |
These are Google Quizzes that include ACTUAL test questions from previous year tests. They include multiple choice questions (which will be checked for accuracy at the end of the test) and a few open-ended (essay) questions [for obvious reasons the open-ended questions will not be checked - but will allow the student to see the types of questions that are asked].
These are all in addition to what the students work on in school and were developed to help students/parents get an idea of the types of questions they will see.

📝 Student Retakes:
Students who have previously taken Keystone Exams in Algebra, Biology, and Literature - and did not score PROFICIENT or better - are able to request to retake the exam(s).
PROFICIENCY on the Keystone Exams is one of the PATHWAYS FOR GRADUATION set up by the PA Department of Education. Most students that do not reach proficiency on the Keystone Exams attain graduation using one of the other Pathways.
Basic questions, such as your score on last year’s Keystone Exam, can be directed to your current Math, Science, or English teacher. If you feel that retaking the Keystone Exam is in your best interest or have questions or concerns, please sign up to meet with your school counselor.
This request is for students who have PREVIOUSLY taken a Keystone Exams and would like to have a discussion with your counselor about possibly retaking one or more of the Keystone exams. Once this form is submitted, your counselor will reach out to you. This will occur after course selection in early April.
