Doing things a little different today, we’ll be kicking things off with multiple deck highlights as this is our first episode since Boomsday’s launch.

Boomsday Decks

A week in. What’s rising, what’s interesting, and what has stayed the same?

Druid

• Mill Druid

• Apparently this is a thing. 2nd most-played on HSreplay.
• Stats are a little wonky (50% overall, 55% with the most popular list). Has great matchups.
• Does well against Mage, Priest (except Mecha’thun), Shaman, and Warrior.

• Still Popular

• Maly & Token

Hunter

• Spell Hunter

• 55% WR overall. This list has a 59% WR.
• No new cards except Secret Plan
• Great MU’s except for Big/Taunt/MCTHN Druid, Big Spell Mage, Odd Pally, Shudderwock, and the now elusive Cubelock.

• Deathrattle Hunter

• Crazy new deck. Runs Play Dead, Fireworks Tech, Devilsaur Eggs, Spider Bombs, Cubes, Zilliax, Mechanical Whelps, Mossy Horrors, and freaking Sunfury Protectors!
• Some great matchups overall.
• Rogue and Priest seem to be really giving this archetype a hard time though.

Mage

• Tempo Mage

• Very popular atm.
• 51% overall WR, 57% WR for this list.
• Has Druids, other Mages, and Priests on lockdown. Doing well against Even/Mech Pally, Off-meta Rogues (Odd & DR are unfavored), owning Shudderwock but struggling against Even and Token Shamans, and doing great against all the popular Warlock decks except for Zoo (which is the most popular by a wide margin).

Paladin

• Odd Paladin

• Basically tied w/ Odd Rogue for 1st in winrate (57%).
• Different than before! Runs a mech package.
• Glow-Tron, Bronze Gatekeeper, Nightmare Amalgam, Giggling Inventor, Mechano-Egg, Wargear, Zilliax, & Kangor’s Endless Army
• Favored: All Druid (except Big which is pretty rare), All Hunter, Tempo Mage, Mech Pally, Combo/Mecha’thun Quest Priest, All Rogue, Overload/Token Shaman, Control Lock
• Unfavored: Mecha’thun Priest, Even/Shudderwock Shaman, Even/Pain/Control Lock.

Priest

• Topsy Turvey

• Really difficult to play so win rates are low
• APM tester to get the super complex combo off but can basically OTK anything

• Mecha’thun Priest

• Third most played deck on HSreplay. But a 47% WR
• Real scattershot on the MU’s.
• Great against Druids. Except for Maly Drood.
• Good against the popular DR & Mech Hunters but struggles against Spell Hunter.
• Big Spell Mage is seeing a big resurgence and this deck owns it, but the most popular Mage looks to be Tempo Mage and this deck has almost no chance in that MU.
• Wrecks Pallys. So if you’re sick of losing to Paladins, here’s your deck.
• Destroys other Priests.
• Great against DR & Pogo Rogue, but gets murdered by Odd Rogue.
• Good against Shaman (except Token)
• Stay away from basically every Warlock.

Rogue

• Deathrattle Rogue

• Builds super sticky boards
• Crushes control but weak against aggro

• Odd Rogue

• Came out swinging last week and has held onto the top spot in the winrates (57+). Just barely above Odd Paladin.
• Most popular version isn’t running anything new.

Shaman

• Even Shammy

• 56% WR
• Pretty much the same but Zap!, Thunderhead, and Arcane Dynamo have found homes in the archetype.
• Great overall MU’s. Beware Mill Druid, Big Spell Mage, Odd Rogue, and Control/Cube/Even Locks.

• Shudderwock

• Builds a board and uses shudderwock to buff and reload
• No infinite shudderwock combo but does run thrall

Warlock

• Heal Zoolock

• Seeing a lot of this deck on ladder. No.1 most played on HSreplay.
• 56% overall WR, 58% for this list.
• Trec won HCT Germany with this in his lineup.
• Favored: Mech Pally, Odd Pally, All Druid, All Priest, Most Rogue, All Hunter
• Unfavored: Even Paladin, Odd Rogue, other Warlocks

• Even Warlock

• Nothing new here. Doing real well. 54% WR.

• Pain Lock

• 49% WR
• Good MU’s overall. Watch out for Spell Hunters, Mages, and Shamans (except this deck does pretty well against token).

Warrior

• Odd Warrior

• Not so great on the overall winrate (51%)
• Another noteworthy deck in Trec’s HCT winning lineup. Pretty different from ladder.
• Favored: Maly Druid, Mech/Spell Hunter, Tempo Mage, All Pally, Combo Priest, Odd/DR/Tempo Rogue,Even/Token Shaman, Zoolock
• Unfavored: All other Druids (Mecha’thun/Token/Mill), DR Hunter, Big Spell Mage (rarer than Tempo but still seeing play), Mechathun Priest, Rare but watch out for Kingsbane and Pogo Rogues, Shudderwock Shaman, Even/Control Warlock

Card Variety

• Goal is to improve variety
• Class Cards: +100% -> +50%
• Spells and Weapons: +75% -> +50%

• *Note that these bonuses multiply, which means that spells and weapons will have a net 125% increase in appearance rate, instead of their old 250% net increase.

• Each class had a group of Rare-quality cards that showed up more often than desired.

• Appearance rate of Rare and Epic cards lowered
• Picks 1, 10, 20, and 30 still offers Rare or better
• All other picks: Rare cards will appear about 11% of the time, and Epic cards about 5% of the time.

The High Druid

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you could do a special focus on fast decks for one of your upcoming episodes. By that I mean decks that will both win quickly and lose quickly.

The reason I ask is that my wife has been a big hearthstone fan from the beginning but due to health reasons can’t play as much as she would like, or used to. She’s more than capable of reaching the single-digit ranks when her health doesn’t get in the way, but it’s been quite a while since she has managed that. Long games against control decks really drain her, and can easily mean she can’t play for the rest of the day while she recovers. Likewise she can’t spend a great deal of time building her own decks, as time spent building decks is time taken away from playing.

So, if you could go through some fast decks for a few different classes, my wife “Lempi” would very much appreciate it.

Hello Perturbed Poultry!

I was wondering if you could offer some advice on crafting legendaries. I am a free-to-play player and I usually pre-purchase one bundle for each expansion. This (along with my gold) usually leaves me with enough dust to craft one or two legendaries, but I often don't know where to make my investment.

I have some crafting regrets, as I am sure many of us do. Notably I never made myself a Keleseth. Though I understood it was a cool mechanic, I didn't think I would miss much without it. Cut to several expansions later and he has been an integral part of several decks in every meta!

So, my questions for you guys are: how do you decide how and when to spend your dust? and how do you identify those legendaries that are gonna be great for many expansions to come? any crafting recommendations for Boomsday?
